Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Wrapped up the installation of a Kicker 10” hideaway under seat subwoofer. The previous owner cut the doors to make way for 2 6x9s in each door, all of which I upgraded recently. Sound on them is ok but not quite full enough so with the addition of the sub, it sounds a lot better. I still prefer that rumble of the MagnaFlows, but having a good sounding stereo is a bonus.

Purchased it from Crutchfield, sales rep Dwayne. Strong recommend if you’re ready to upgrade yours.

Inside door speakers will sound like crap if you don't insulate them. Crutchfield used to sell a styrofoam shield that you put on the back of the speaker to cut unwanted radiant metallic sibilance. Possibly the silvered Sound Control Matting might work too.

Everybody like to knock their PO for cutting holes in the doors, but I've had my C/10 Stepside since 6/1973, so I'm the guy who wanted a stereo in his truck. But I did go with single 5.5'' speakers because I thought the 6x9s cut away too much steel.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

.

Replaced the 2nd gear servo in my 700r4 with the "Corvette" upgrade. The goal was to tighten up the 1-2 shift. Once removed, the size of the opening in the divider ring at about 2.3 inches revealed that the one installed was not the weakest servo (4-cyl, v6) but the second weakest (v6-v8) of the stock GM servos. I purchased just the upgrade kit and so had to disassemble and reassemble replacing the divider ring and its mate with the parts from the kit.

Best 27 dollars I've spent on the truck! No other bang for the buck will come close to this. Holy Bjeezus man this thing shifts so much more to my liking now.

I know. Seems like my '71 GMC is the support truck for my ''new'' 2003 Tahoe.

I used an 1-1/4” bar from a 1ton square body. Direct fit just need to order the bushings for the 1-1/4 bar. Tremendous upgrade in handling.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

For a bit now my battery meter hasn't moved, finally bugged me enough to check the fuses, when I pulled the driver's side apart the glass separated. I stuck in a normal one in (which is way to long) but that allowed the battery meter to come back alive.

I wanted to get Littelfuse SFE4BP SFE, but got Bussmann Division SFE-4 Auto because they'll come in tomorrow (via Amazon). Hopefully it will fit properly!

After that, I'll not drive or see my truck for awhile - which makes me sad. I'm having to move to Atlanta, Ga on Saturday to keep my position at WarnerBros. Discovery (my remote work status was revoked) and I must report to the campus there. My youngest will be keeping up the house here in Texas, while I hunker down in a little apartment. Kind of sucks but I am trying to see it as an adventure. After being here in my home for nearly 25 years and twice as long in Texas, it surely will be different.

Here's the truck, nicely tucked with her cover on to keep the dust off while I am away. See you labor day or perhaps Thanksgiving Good 'O Truck! :'(

These Bussmann Division SFE-4 Auto fit perfectly! I recommend these and I love the little case, reminds me of the old days getting little boxes of fuses.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Today I installed an alternator bracket that I lengthened and modified to work with my M/T valve covers. I made a temporary one a couple of years ago until I had a way to heat/bent metal to match the curve needed to clear the alternator. This was a good project to justify an oxy/acetylene torch for the garage.

Yep, those little devils.
It’s really something how those two fuses cover a lot of territory of the truck.
The ole glass fuses and OE fuse panel are still going strong on my 72’

Now back to the thread:
I ordered a tri fold tonneau cover for my 8ft C10 bed.

Spal 16 inch pusher fan came today . This is for the 72 even though I put a new Cold case radiator in it and it never got over 190 on my trip to Tennessee I wanted it for towing and will come in handy when I install the AC

That does look nice. Looks like it goes all the way to the edge of the flat section covering up stake pocket holes. So many dont.
