Heres a 1966 chevrolet series 70 digger derrick with a GMC 401 big block v6 that my parents construction company used for years untill it was scrapped 2 years ago originally ordered and used by Nebraska Public Power District we gave it the nickname Oscar like the sesame street character we'd take it in for routine service and go to start it the next day and it wouldn't start it had a mind of its own lol I often thought how cool it would have been to restore this ol girl back to what she looked like the day she was put into service back in 66 but it was soo used and beat up and rusted even Fred Flintstone wouldn't drive it and I wouldn't have known where to get the parts for the truck or digger derrick lol

Here's a 68 F-850 Super Duty I scrapped last week. Originally a twin screw tractor it was stretched and made into a dump truck. I had to haul it in 3 sections. Powered by a 534 c.i.d. Super Duty, 5 speed and 4 speed browny. At first I though it was shame to scrap it but it was so used up and full of rats. Every panel was bent. Except the hood scoop heh heh.

That looks like the exact same truck lol. Even a 68 too. Or possibly a 69. I dig the hood scoop, I'm saving mine to put on my 59 Apache gasser.

855 CID (around 14L) cummins with a 5 speed allison automatic transmission and 2 speed transfercase (low range and overdrive, no direct)

1952 GMC M211

302 I-6 with an 8 speed "automatic" transmission.

Gears are manually selected and torque converter is locked in all gears except first and reverse.

Transfercase is also fully automatic.


The one picture has the center console. The massive starter lever is on the right. Pulling the lever manually engages the starter bendex. As the bendex engages, the linkage pushes a large button mounted on the starter to engage the motor. In the center is the primary shifter selector which has an upside down U pattern. Left side is low range, right side is high range. Top center is nuetral. From forward to back on each side the choices are: hilly, level, reverse. To the left of that is the gear selector (not all M211s had this, this was a conversion the army did). Four positions from front to back for 1-2-3-4. Transmission stays in that gear regardless of anything else you do with the exception of high and low range selected from the primary selector.

Hey haminater, I'm not a ford guy but I wouldn't have had the heart to scrap that one, maybe the best looking ford truck ever, didn't happen to save the scoop did ya? Sindy and I were in Prescott Valley friday and Saturday, guess we should have looked you up. On our way back from Quartzsite, in the process of buying a piece of groud in Brenda. Not much going on at the PV flea market and the weather wasn't looking good so we made a break for it back to colo, hit heavy snow your side of flagstaff but got through it. Next time we'll try and give you a heads up. Thanks factorystock for the pic of the new one.

I was trying to pretend I hadn't seen those pictures, but I can't help it now.


If there's anything left of that truck haminater, there are a number of parts I saw that looked salvagable that are likely impossible to find for guys with those trucks. Hood scoop, grill (looks like those are the shutters), emblems, maybe even fenders and such. I could see the bumper even being useful as a template.

Well I really didn't have a way to haul the whole truck plus the rats took it over as well as some vandalism. I did save the scoop and emblems and tach dash too. Also saved the shutters and headlight bezels.

I remember when those Super Dutys were king of the dump trucks until the Louisville series came out!!!! (Here in the mid-west anyway!)

Believe me I argued with my self for a week about what to do with this truck. There is a following for these for sure, however finding someone that would put Humpty back together again or even need parts anytime soon would be a stretch. At least around here, but I could be wrong. I paid 700 for it and couldn't afford to leave that money sitting in my back yard right now. I've been having issues with the city and commercial vehicles parked here lately too. Many factors involved made me decide to go ahead and junk it. I am a pack rat myself so I did keep a few things from it. I remember playing in one my dad drove over 40 years ago, I think it was an "N" series though. I figured I would catch some flack for junking it but believe me its not the first one I'll regret some day.

Agreed. The 5 ton is just too big for me to work on, but I could handle a deuce Jimmy. Engine is more familiar, being related to the 228 half ton motor.

There is a 54 GMC military 6x6 for sale near me in Mayer. It looks nice in the Craigslist Prescott photos.
