there is your report maker! that is a common trick of realtors, they call compliance when they have a house for sale so the neighborhood is cleaned up. you should get your compliance issue squared away then find out when they are having an open house. sit on your front lawn in a too-tight tank top in a kiddie pool drinking beer the entire open house. make sure and burp loudly and keep the empties floating in the pool with you.

I wish I could take credit but

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

I got nothing done tonight went to put my starter on shimed it the bendix looks good and the starter motor wire from the solenoid is hitting my header so I got a screwdriver to pry it away with thinking it would be a quality thick copper cable and hold its new position and snap it broke off the lug not sure if I can crimp an eyelit terminal onto the wire and slap it on the lug and have the terminal last or if I should just contact skip white really disappointed there then I go to pull the pitman arm off and my pitman arm puller I borrowed from a friend s jaws pulled apart to where it wont even pull on the arm anymore

We also got the call from the city today the guy was later then expected in calling us but he will be here tomorrow evening to inspect whatever happens happens I guess maybe if they take it my stress level will go down and I won't have a heart attack at the age of 21

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Those starters should be made to "clock" on that face plate.... loosen the face screws and rotate it to where it needs to be away for the engine or header.

So you have to make this thing run for the city guy to see? or it just has to move someplace else? Move it to the other side of the driveway!!!

good luck my friend!

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

tell me more about clocking it to get away from the header

I contacted skip white they said it can simply be re soldered and that it clearly was soldered poorly they apologized and yada yada yada annoying but whatever

The truck needs to run not drive or anything but my cooling system and the starter/ignition system need done yesterday so not sure I haven't even done break in yet either hopefully he gets caught up at another appointment and has to reschedule

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

From what I can see in the pics looking at the gear face... there are 3 holes on the right. if you pull the bolt out of there the motor should rotate up and down within those 3 holes to rotate it on the alum face plate. I have a starter something like that too, its a Powermaster Mini starter.

Directions from them;

Clockable starters. Some Powermaster starters are clockable meaning that the starter motor can be rotated in relation to the mounting block.
Currently this includes part numbers 9000, 9004, 3500, 9102, 9132, 9142, and 9152. Simply remove the socket cap bolts securing the mounting
block to the front of the starter and rotate it to another setting. Powermaster starters 9000, 9004, and 3500 are made to mount on either side of the
engine. Owners of DART and other high performance engines can take advantage of this by mounting the starter on the driver side.

Just make sure you keep is all sandwiched together when you rotate it else the brushes can pop out.

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Been a long 4 days guys inspector showed up but we relocated the truck to the garage so it was not available for evaluation as it was in the garage

Had the Nova in running order which is running GREAT it pushes you down and keeps you there when you floor it plus the added spec of front brakes and quality suspension that actually work gives us piece of mind much better then the one sticky caliper and worn out springs from before

Friday night and saturday morning I built my step dads big block for him without telling him while he was camping that was a good surprise for him

As for truck progress we have the cooling system loosely mounted in I need to put a 3/4in plate under the trans mount to level the motor and trans in the bay so the fan gets away from the radiator, got motor mounted for good, oil in, ignition system done except the #1 terminal back to ign switch keyed hot trans cooler lines are almost done and 2 gallons of fluid have already been added other then that we are needing to do the exhaust and give it some gas

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Here is how it sits as of now got all the trans cooler lines run radiator is hard mounted and got the fan away from the radiator finished the ignition system

Remaining list
-shorten and mount negative battery cable to the back of the bell housing
-find a good location for my engine to frame ground strap
-fill coolant
-cobble an exhaust system together
-steal battery from nova
-plug in "liberated battery" and hope to see no fires
-prime oil pump
-crank to find TDC
-prime fuel pump
-pray that break in goes smooth (if not ignore next three steps)
-smile endlessly
-dance with joy
-sleep well (or not at all due to happiness)

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Update time!

Last night I got a late start around 8:30 so not a lot

I got coolant in (I needed more to even fill the radiator up)
Plugged in the battery NO FIRES YAY
Turned the ignition nothing happened....

By this point it was dark so we did a few tests but nothing major I came to the conclusion the problem was likely the NSS being clocked wrong and called it quits

Then lunch today rolls around and rather then eating I start to diagnose and I wasn't getting any power at the NSS voltage in whatsoever traced the wire back and I forgot to put my Solenoid fuse in popped that baby in and she cranks good the bendix is aligned well and doesn't grind

Tonight we will
-Prime the pump
-fill the coolant
-find TDC
-check trans fluid level
-drop the distibutor
-run spark plugs
-mount the gas pedal
-cobble exhaust together

I'm thinking break in will be saved for Saturday just because it takes so long and I imagine it will be very loud

Heres a few of the radiator brckets I made from some brackets I had laying around do we think they are thick enough

Supper temporary as I don't even know if this is a long term radiator or not but it will work for break in

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Found a piston stop from a tech at work to use for the weekend so that problem is solved for now!

Whats done now is:
-Found TDC set my initial to 7 degrees
-Dropped my distributor in
-ran wires
-added two more gallons of coolant (STILL NOT ENOUGH)
-Checked trans level (still showing overfilled (odd as I have only added around 12 quarts when GM says a full rebuild is 13.4 quarts does it need ran through the gears?)
-Covered the rest of my external wires
-Got reducers and collectors installed on my exhaust
-Exhaust hung and bolted up (no welds or clamps though for now)
-Plugged in my tach and cranked it over but there was no signal do I need power in as well as the tach signal? I was under the impression the power in was just for lights could be wrong though
-wondered what to do next and that I'm still not sure of

I think we are ready to start!!!!
