Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Those steering braces really take up some real estate, any news on the TC issue? Buddy of mine has been having some issues with TCI also.

TCI shipped me a new TC and front seal on my dime. Then I have to return the one that has issues for warrenty. The biggest problem I have now is Summit Racing advertises the transmission to handle 575 horse power. TCI told me 350 max. So I'm going to put the tranny in and get the car home as it has been sitting at my nephews shop for 5 week swapping out the engine and trans. Based on how this engine ran it is the most radical engine I have had. it is so loud I don't think I will be able to drive it on the street with out getting a ticket and I have duel exhaust out past the rear bumper with magna flow mufflers X2. I might have to swap out the camshaft to tame it down. I should have the new TC end of the week and get the car drivable this week end.

My rear axle is 1.5" or so forward also. I only have 4" shackle flip kit.
Have you checked the actually wheelbase measurement? should be 127" correct? I need to remember to check that tonight.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Hello Mr. D your welcome. I'm sorry I could not spend more time the other day but I had to work on my house do to the contractor having his head up his A**. Hard to be live that they tried twice to install door frame trim and I had to do it my self Saturday. The house painting should be done Tuesday then I get to move back in and get back on the truck.

Thanks. I've been seeing all you guys going LS and I've almost been thinking of doing a burb with one. But I have to finish some old projects first. Haha

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

After looking a little closer at your header issue the only difference i see is that i went with pacific fabs cross member and the motor mounts may set up a little higher.

Yes that right. The DD mount I used set the engine about 1.5" lower and caused a lot of issue with headers.
