I want to encourage you, this is an awesome project, keep the momentum going!
You are doing a really nice job with the cab and the hard part is almost over.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the build.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build

Worked on the 4th door a little yesterday lowered the upper hinge 1.5 inches to match the other side. I also had to cut into the hinge support on the inside so I rebuilt that. Then I tacked the door back together to ckeck the fit again.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build

I ended up building a whole new hinge area mount. I couldnt get the pivots to line up because the front doors are at a slight angle. Fussed with it for days.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build

Spent about 5 hours today working on the truck.I got alot done mostly small detail stuff. Since I moved the hinge down I had to weld up the old holes on the b pillar. then i mounted the door and re fit it. fits pretty good still need the rear section of a passenger side door to get the shape of the door to match the front door. anyway here's a few pics

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build

I'm glad to see you are still determined to finish the 4th door and continue with the build.
What you are attempting is difficult to say the least and you seem undaunted by the challenge.
Once you have finished with the 4th door and have 4 swinging properly working doors you can look upon your work with pride knowing you have accomplished what very few men before you have even attempted.
I'm looking forward to seeing your accomplishment.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build

Well I picked up the door section I needed for my 4th door.
All I need is the inner panel so I ground the edge to split the outer skin.
Then they just pulled apart, This door had a little more rust then I like
but it will be a easy fix. hopefuly more updates by the end of the weekend.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build

I only got about 3 hours of work in on the 4th door but I made a lot of progress.
I was able to graft in the rear of the passenger door to the front of the 4th door.
It took alot of trimming and fitting but looks good, I still have to hang it on the cab to recheck fit. Then I will reshape the upper curve of the door to match the front door. Look at the last pic and this door now has 2 door lock rod holes, of course one will go away but looks funny right now.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build

Well I got a lot of work in on the 4th door pretty happy with the way it came out.
I did a lot inside the door like rebuilding the hinge support area and made room for the front window channel run. And after taking the door on and off the cab about 50 times it was time to reshape it. I cut along the door and then let it overlap then cut it again. And some how I cut it crooked but it worked all the same. Then I made the upper glass run and got it all tacked together. Im skiping a lot of details it took to make this door work right but I think I officially have a
fully functioning 4th door! minus the window rolling up and down but thats next on the list.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build

This is so cool. Never seen it done with a Suburban. I used to work in a Shop back in Indy and we mostly build race cars, ProStreet Cars, and Drag cars. We did do a couple 4 Door Builds but we started with a pickup and turned it into a 4-Door using parts from Wrecked Suburban, and more pickup parts. Very Cool to see yours. We also did ours into a Dually in the back by using a Stepside outer fender, and put it on a fleetside bed. I am so looking forward to down the road doing some work on mine. Enjoy watching all the welding, and finish welding and all. Project I am working on now is all Fiberglass work.
