Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Thanks, Kimble! I'm mentally preparing for a couple of projects on the 66.
1) Convert the engine accessories to an early 90s serpentine setup. I pulled this of a 454 sub at the junkyard a year ago. I just hate to pull off the brand new water pump and alternator. And with the switch to long water pump the fan clutch might not clear the radiator... 2) NV4500 + NP205 swap. Have everything I need. Just need to swap in the short 32 spline input to the round np205 and bolt it all together. Oh, almost forgot I need to swap in the twin stick rails while I'm in there. In the mean time I stumbled across this for a nice price on craigslist. The guy I purchased from has a sweet 61 GMC suburban. He also had a burb tank for 60-62 wider frame. Once I get this in I'll have 20 gallon behind the seat and 20 under the bed. I need to figure out how I'm going to switch between the two tanks.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Thats a pretty crazy looking tank Jason. As for switching, I'm sure you can get a selector for just about any dual tank set up and run that. The key is in the gauge switching. I'm running into a bit of a wiring issue with mine as well. 0-90 behind the seat and the later 100+ ohm in the back. Gonna take a few to figure it out.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Oh, and I somehow inherited this old Kawasaki KZ650 with a KZ750 motor.
If I can get it running decently it will be turned into a little cafe racer. Anyway, I'm trying not to let this distract me from the pickup and the burb. Hopefully it will eventually look something like this:

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Chris, it is a 63-66 Suburban tank. 20 gallons made to fit our truck frames. I just need some kind of selector switch and three way solenoid valve.

I had a KZ650 back in the 90's... nice little bike with loads of power, for what it was.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Going to pick it up tomorrow or Thursday. It was a reasonable price so I figured I'd see how I like it. I'll post another pic once I get it on there. need to find a way to mount it without drilling holes in my bed rails... I have some ideas.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Not cherry, but definitely not bad!
My dad rode out with me to pick it up earlier tonight. To be honest, I was pretty nervous as we drove out to pick it up. I kept thinking I might regret buying this thing. My dad was skeptical too. But once we dropped it on the truck I was in love. I think this funky old camper shell looks pretty good on old Big ugly! The jury is still out on the blue acrylic windows, but it doesn't look like they're easily replaced.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Totally goes with the Big Ugly theme, and you can change out the blue for green to I bet. Since I have seen those old aluminum campers with blue or green windows.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Nah! That'd be way too nice for ol' Ugly. Just a simple soap and water wash will do!
Besides its galvanized sheet metal so it wouldn't polish up even if I tried.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Picked up these Dodge buddy buckets tonight. Good price and they're in decent condition, just ready for some saddle colored upholstery to match my "interior". Seems that some minor mods can be done to bolt this into my cab. Its actually kind of similar to the 66 style buddy seat frame. I'm going to make sure it sits a little higher like the 66 Chevy version.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Hey Jason, I just noticed that you have the round mirrors. How do you like them? Ive got the square ones on the pedestal mounts like yours and they drive me crazy. At anything over 25 -30 mph, they vibrate so much that I can barely see whats behind me. Do yours do any better?

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
He just says Dodge buddy buckets. Unless I missed where he said 1972. If it is a 1972 Dodge truck then it will probably be harder to find those then an original Chevy one.
