Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

We made it to @c10sinthepark despite some tire issues on the truck and trailer. We were very fortunate since we heard multiple stories of blow outs by others.

Chris and I met so many people and Scarlett was well received by all. Everyone was extremely complimentary and understood she still has a lot to be done before she is finished.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments and word's of encouragement. We hope she will be the Belle of the Ball once she is done.

Truck looked killer! It was nice meeting you and talking to everyone on the board. Definitely don't have that many trucks of your caliber up here in Indiana.

Scarlett does look much better in person. Great to talk to you again. I agree, this event was a great success and will be returning next year. Thanks for taking the time to look over that tan/red truck I brought with me. Looks like it is going to become Owen's first C10 and the Sonoma will be sold to help fund the C10.

Karl it was great to chat with you and your son. I watched him light up as he told me the details on his build. You must be very proud to have a son that loves old trucks and knows how to build them.

That twotone you showed me is going to clean up nicely. If you need any info on parts, just let me know.

I met so many people at C10sinthe park that I am just now starting to put names with faces, and faces with trucks. I know we chatted, but I guess I didn't realize what truck was yours. Definitely my favorite 73-80 at the event.

It's hasn't yet. I realized it was going to be a tedious project so I set it aside and went without one. I am going to get back on it once I get my yard back in shape. We have company coming and my backyard went insane with all the rain we have had.

The victory red is correct for the truck and the two tone combo is as well. Its the "warm nickel metallic" that makes it a unique combo. Its not the correct color for the year, but looks much better that the medium charcoal that it started with

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

I am absolutely loving the detail in this build! I found the thread just a few weeks ago and couldn't stop reading. My '84 definitely needs a makeover like this as well, especially since I believe the previous owner drove a lot on dirt roads. The frame rails are coated with dust and grime and anywhere dirt could pile up it's there, inches deep. Also grateful for the attention to detail and posting what paint and things you are using and where you buy your parts. It helps keep my budget build in mind as well. Beautiful truck sir!

Thanks for the kind words. My wife calls me extremely frugal like its bad words. I started using economical alternatives when it was all I could afford.

These days with the cost of paint and supplies it just makes good sense (cents?) to use my methods in a hobby shop application. The key to it all is finding low priced equivalents to high priced products. I refuse to compromise the end results, but I have found there are practical alternatives if your willing to do some research.

One thing that is critical in my methods is never, ever compromise preparation. No matter what you spend on materials, proper prep is crucial to quality long lasting results. DO NOT cut corners or it absolutely will come back to bite you on the butt.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

Its time to get back on this project. I had planned to get started last weekend, but I had too much to do around the house. Now that I am somewhat caught up I plan to get going again.

I did score a part that I desperately needed. A buddy that has a nice collection of NOS parts offered me one of his GMC hood ornaments. It was exactly what I needed and at a very fair price considering how hard NOS parts are to find.

Good to see you back to give her some attention.

BTW, Thanks again for the time you spent at C10's in the Park looking/discussing the tan/red '84 I brought along. I did end up buying it, sealed the deal last night finally, we agreed on $4500, so I think I did fine getting that truck. Turns out it will end up being Owen's truck and we will be selling off the Sonoma to offset some of the investment. I hope to start a very slow moving build thread on it soon.

Sweet. Yeah those ornaments are hard to find. I just settled on a reproduction one, for my truck. Would have liked to gotten a NOS part, but couldn't find one.

Can't wait to see that ornament on the truck. The GMC stuff is getting a lot harder to find it was hard to let that one go but I knew it was going to a good cause!!! Having knee surgery next week so I hope to have some down time to inventory the NOS stuff.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

No updates from the weekend, but I really hope to see some progress this week. My shop had become an absolute disaster. I had been accumulating old parts for a swap meet and had no good place to store them, so I bought a couple of modular shelves from Sams and dug in.

I pulled everything out and cleaned thoroughly then added insulation and sheetrock to a section of wall I had never finished. Chris and I separated everything from keep to sell and fit as much as we could in tubs and stacked on the shelves.

Thanks to Chris for the help, and motivation.

Along with being OCD I am also claustrophobic. I have a hard time focusing on my work when I feel like the walls are closing in. It was a huge feeling of relief to get things clean and organized in that corner.

The 77 will be getting some well need love soon enough. i have to get Scarlett finished up first or I will not have her ready for Lonestar Throwdown

Re: 85 GMC Sierra "Scarlett"

After an unintended break, I am back on this build. Life and work demanded my attention but I am starting the "Countdown to Throwdown " with a vengeance.

Yesterday I stored the remains from my trip to @c10sinthepark and got on with the dash updates. The freshly dyed pad came out to get to the stock clcluster. I had several updates to do so it had to come out.

I was pleased to discover that that the cluster was original and in excellent condition. Despite that, it needed some love to meet my standards.
Follow along as I restore and update with LEDS and a GM Sports 7k tach.
