John, you have got such a damn nice place to work on your truck. That's a real luxury to be able to walk under your truck and work on it like that. Thanks for all the great pics.

Hey John,
couple questions. you referred to side pressure ports and not having to tap the cover, can you explain?

also, you gonna buy or fab a transmission cross member.
I'm picking up a 700r4 for the '66 in the next couple weeks.
also can someone tell me what flex plate I need. it is a '91 700r4 going behind our 283 replacing the granny 4 speed
Thanks

John, I'm considering upgrading my clutch linkage. Did you use a kit for this? I found this on-line from Speed Direct.

http://cmc.speeddirect.com/AMAZING/i...%2D125&eq=&Tp=

I have a three speed overdrive and am considering a Autogear Muncie overdrive four speed as an possible upgrade. It will give me a fully syncronized transmission and allow for some speed shifting. Your 700R4 conversion is certainly of great interest. Have a great day.

The one that's on the end of the cable.....JK...not sure yet. I purchased a replacement cable a while back as my truck didn't have one my I got it. When I get the truck driveable, I will find out how off the speedo is then go from there...

Well depending on which lock-up kit I go with.....some 700R4's have no side ports, so the cover has to be tapped...I was tolded...My tranny has two ports on the side of the tranny. My buddy has a B&M kit for me, but I really like the kit from BowtieOverdrives. I might just pick-up a late-model brake switch, and use it with the B&M, not sure yet.

I plan on building my own crossmember...which will bolt to the stock location...and incorporate the e-brake. Bowtie Overdrives has a really nice one, with e-brake for $175....I could make one with materials I already have. As far as flexplate, any one should work. I'm using one from a 350/350TH. You will need flexplate bolt, which are shorter.

If you look back at my build, you will notice the stock linkage was worn out. I just reused the stock rod, tapped the ends, and used heim-joints. The lower rod, with the adjustment, was purchased new thru Classic.

I have been....haven't touched it in a week or so....debateing on the crossmember right now. Should I spend the time to fab one up, or purchase the reasonably priced nice one from Bowtie OD's with e-brake ready to go ??

Sometimes...you just got to bite the bullet and do it....

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....

The Painless wing kit works really well, and is prices pretty cheap. You may want to get a Caprice tailhousing instead of the Camaro one, though. It will make fabbing the crossmamber a little easier as it doesn't have the torque arm mount bracket holes in it.

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....

Sure will...although, I just won some OG mirrors from E-bay....Should be here soon....

The mirrors I currently have were purchased at Kragens.....They were actually a good size for actual use.

The old-school ones you see hanging from the door tops, weren't my style, and are pretty much useless IMO.

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....

I drove down to Gilroy, and found a couple of C-10 in a wrecking yard.

One was a 66 CustomCab, but the steering wheel was pretty wasted...it did have an auto column, but that thing was pretty loose too...would need a full rebuild.

He did have a nice column in a 67...it looked to be good.

Then he showed me a nice column shift TILT out of a 72...it was nice and tight (we like it that way) and all the levers were intact. Really nice, but he wants $225 for it....Kinda pricey

Anyway, decisions decisions.

I thought about the rat-fink, rat-rod shifter off the floor...but still wanted to keep the floor open.

Still gonna keep my eye open a little longer....
