Well, not a giant setback, more of an annoying setback. Somehow I have a good size dent in the oil pan, possibly from transporting the engine and maybe a jack pushing it up at one point. That's all I could possibly picture. At any rate, I realized quickly there was no clearance between the pickup screen and the floor of the pan. Rather than kill the engine, I have to pull the motor to replace the pan (I hate in truck pan pulls). So a new pan is on the way. Trying to not get bit by the while Im here bug!!

I got kinda bit Im going to repaint the motor. In reality, not a huge job, this old Duplicolor paint is just cracked terribly and not sticking anymore. And it doesn't even have any miles on it! Garbage! I am glad I did this though. The oil pump pickup was a bit big on the clearance side so that is back where it needs to be now.

Motor is still out, pan is all done and engine is painted. I went ahead and started working on the valve cover modifications to accept breathers, and minus paint I am just about done with them. I do need to clean some of the paint run from the intake, I used the POR15 engine enamel which seems to actually be pretty tough. The Dupli-color crap I used before was cracking and flaking with 30 minutes of run time on it. Nearing getting it back into the truck, hopefully soon.

Love a orange engine. I too used por15 engine enamel. You will have to update us as to how it looks after some run time. It will be a while before I get there.

Happy New Year!
I promise I am working on the truck. Really working towards hitting the goal of driving this Summer. I have had some personal set backs, and being sick with some unknown bug for about 5 days has really kept me out of the shop. Thankfully I had loaded up on Roadkill and other Motortrend shows to make me motivated once I get back in the shop.

Valve covers are done. Just need to cook them to finally cure, but I had to mock them up to see how they look! They came out as I had hoped. Next was going to be my manifolds, but as I was smoothing them I found cracks. Now to find more I suppose. Once I get my parts back from powdercoating I will be able to get the motor in. The PS bracket I have mounts to the motor mount and is a PITA to install with the engine in.
I also POR15'd the inside of the driver side door, now to flip it over and do the other inside surface.

I finally rid myself of it sometime last week. Boy that was a terrible experience, Im still not sure what it was but I am amazed how much of a grip it had on me. I am just now really feeling back on pace. Hopefully you're rid of it as well!

I didnt realize how much anxiety repairing doors gives me Ive taken a long break on this door! But back to it. As I said before, I did some POR15 painting inside it the other day, now Im back onto the door skin itself, trying to get this straighter before I weld in a new lower skin. This thing got SMACKED hard in these small areas, its like they knew Id try to graft in a lower door skin and just wanted to make it just that much more difficult. Im not going to get them perfect but I want to get close to flat as I can. The door trim will cover most of this area anyways, so getting it to not be noticeable is obviously ideal.

While I have the lowers of the doors cut off, I POR15 each door. These are all natural, bare steel and had a lot of surface rust and dirt. I went through, wire wheeled and cleaned before POR15'ing. Boring, and not so exciting but it will keep this door from rotting out and will also give my sound deadening material a good surface to grip onto.

Continuing to make great progress I see. I've swapped manifolds with the engine in place and it's not that big of a deal. The engine looks good in its home!

Shouldnt be too bad, once I remembered that I never make anything easy on myself I realized it was the right thing to do but in reality I am going to smooth the manifolds down so that will take a good but of some time, I will also port match them and work the insides of them down to flow some more. Hoping they come out as expected, I began to on my old ones and found a ton of cracks. Fingers crossed these new ones are better.

My new ram horns came in the mail last week, so I began smoothing them over this weekend. It wasn't a ton of work but it was a crazy dirty job especially with the carbide bit tossing chunks everywhere. I cut the large 'nubs'/castings for different accessories/emissions ports with a big cutoff wheel and shaped them down. There is a ton of material to work with but I did need to weld up two holes where some sort of emissions tube would have threaded in. I don't normally weld cast iron, but I got it real hot and filled from the inside and outside, and wrapped it in multiple blankets to allow it to cool evenly, so fingers crossed. All in I'm happy with the results, now I am going to take them to get powdercoated, originally I was thinking white, but I am not sure. Haven't really seen white manifolds, just headers.

Working on getting the hood installed. I actually have taken up going to the gym so that I can lift this hood all jokes aside this thing is heavy and about an acre of metal. I did place the hood to spot weld the perches but didnt take a photo sadly. It was nice to see it as a full truck again that is for sure. Also thank you to hewittca for the last minute answers on the hood hinges. All contributions to the cause are greatly appreciated!

It sure is. The interior assembly was a giant motivator, and this is even more so. Waiting for my exhaust to come back from the powder coaters and I will be able to do a startup.

and BAM! Hood is mounted. The motivation is real. This hood hasn't touched the truck in at least a year and a half and hasn't been able to actually open since I bought the truck.
The Switch Suspension hood hinges are crazy smooth, the shocks are great at lifting the hood properly and they also can be parked at different lower heights, which is a plus for shows. I placed the hood between the fenders and all, with gaskets, bumps and stoppers in place, and pulled the inner fenders to tack weld the brackets in place. I then took it back off, and put the hood on a workbench and welded them in solid. I did end up shimming them some to get the line up better, overall I am pleased with the final product. Nice work on the install! I'm curious to know how you got yours to park in different positions. If I let go of my hood before it's all the way up it springs up to fully open.

Mine will allow me to park it about 1/2 way down and from there I can park it anywhere. Above 1/2 travel it wants to full open. Might be because its so cold here aswell
