Nice pics.

Jeff looks like a succesfull cardio thoracic surgeon.

I had a good chuckle as the bear theme is quite heavy in your last post..... DaBearsDa1, Grizz, your Bears T shirt.

Glad you enjoyed the bits and I guess the umbrella hat can be usefull.

Jeff was visiting his dad who lives about 30 minutes away, and was able to get away for a brief visit... We talked trucks and BEARS Football and then he had to get on the road for family time...
Great guy and I am looking forward to dropping in on him next time I visit the Chicago area!!!

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Thanks Alan, if I get over your way I will be sure to say Hello!!!

I posted about that part on my Son's Volvo and questioned the need for a 2 piece driveshaft... In talking with Parts people I believe it is a Safety feature... the motor mounts are designed to give way in the event of a front end collision in order to keep the motor from being forced into the passenger compartment, so between the boy and I we deduced the 2 piece D/S is part of that equation as well.

Have a Blessed Week!

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Decisions, Decisions... One of my local friends is building a ratrod truck out of a free truck he ended up with, a 98-2000 stepside chevy, and he wants to trade me these 20's for my 15's...

Your opinions are encouraged and welcomed... As I stand right now, I will have to go with a bigger rim nonetheless, with the addition of the rear lowering blocks the rear-end u-bolts are riding below the rim line.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

my .02 is grab'em.
20's are spendy especially if the tires are good. Stock steelies are fairly reasonable unless you get them from auctions in Nebraska.
The wheels you have at the moment look great but if their not big enough then that might be a problem. You can always sell them later if things change.
Them 20's look sick!

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Have you thought about using more spring and less block? How wide are them 20's? Could be a can of worms trying to tuck those.

I was planning on using at least 17's but got these 15's for a song...
Then this trade offer popped up... They are currently installed on a bone stock truck. Not sure of the rim width, but the tire sizes are 265/50r20 and 275/45r20...
Thanks for the heads up on tucking them, I will be test fitting before the deal is sealed.
I'm nowhere near ready to roll and my bud is trying to sell his house and move so he is also at least 6 months out before he would be ready to drive his project...

Thanks for the input Gentlemen!!!

Very nice truck build going on here.
I saw your post on Grizz's thread on GJ and had to check things out and join this forum too.
Looks I have another cool internet place to hang out now.
My home is not too far from your neck of woods.

Welcome Vince.

You will find a very similar culture to GJ here and a load of knowlege.

Don, with what you plan for your truck, and if the tires ( real spelling tyres) are good, I agree with Bomp.

Go for it.

Yes I've got a 99 Z71 to go with the 99 vette. I tell people I collect 99's.

Thanks for the invite, I get up to Kensett every once in a while.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Thanks for the welcomes Grizz/Rian and jlsaborn.

I can see by the work being done by Don, Bomp and others on here that I will have a lot to keep up with. I will tackle the mechanics but body work is still over my head. May be one day I will take the plunge.

I don't know why, but sometimes I feel obligated to keep people focused...Just my nature (not sure if that is a good trait in my personal life).
Maybe it is the management part of me stepping over the line.
I don't mean anything by it, honestly.
In fact, I looked at my post and said:
Really? You just posted that?....Are you kidding me?

But I am interested in seeing you move forward!

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Finally a bit of a real update...

after starting the day finishing some grinding on the new-to-me hood for my 90 DD...

Pulled the tarp from my Radiator support, Grill support, and inner fenders... Preparing to disassemble to clean and start paint work...

With the help of my Son and a friend of my daughter's, we set the bed on the frame and backed it into my work-tent...

the reason... to decide on placement of '65 Impala taillights and start the fabrication process...

also finally finished with my other Son's Volvo... had a gas leak at the filler tube, drop tank, repair, re-install... then had to repair newly-developed leak at one of the hoses connecting on top of the tank...

Later Guyz and Galz...
