My measurements from last night were accurate.

I cut the flange portion (where the rubber trans mount/bushing sits) off of the ECE trans x-member today @ lunch & cleaned up the welding slag. I grabbed a 4x6 piece of .250" plate & tacked it in place (now on the 'bottom' of the square tube vs. the 'top').

I installed the x-member & lowered the drivetrain. With a 3/16" 'shim', I'm @ 0.1° off from level (measured @ the intake/carb mounting pad). I put the level/angle finder on the trans yoke & I'm getting 2.7°. Another thing I verified is the ECE T/A x-member d.shaft loop isn't going to be tall enough to clear the shaft (needed the drivetrain in to 100% verify). Looks like I'll need to increase the height an inch or 2.

I think I'm good to go but will confirm a couple of questions first. If my answers are what I expect (and I can't believe I'm about to say this), the chassis will come apart for some blasting & color.....

Ok..... I'll make a small update to keep things on track. I got the sbc/700r4 into the spare frame in order to verify the driveline angles & needed some pinion shims so I could accurately set the trans mount height. I got the shims in today so I'll try & get some time on it this weekend.

Baseball (Rangers are in the play-offs) has been occupying some of my spare time so until the 'fat lady sings', I might be going to the home games.

Oh.... the other thing taking up my time (& thoughts) is my new to me dually that I swapped my 74 for. Although not a project, I'm getting a few 'essentials' to make it unmistakenly 'mine'

Those are pinion shims for truck arms. I needed the pinion set correctly @ ride height to build the trans mount @ the 'opposing' angle so everything is 'in-phase' for minimal (zero?) driveline vibration w/the OD trans set-up.

I think the dually is going to be sweet, once you work your magic on it. I am looking forward to seeing that. Also looking forward to seeing the '64 rolling down the street. It is going to be amazing.

The 64 on the trailer (prior to it's maiden voyage), behind the dually should be an avatar worthy shot.

I could do one but there wouldn't be much to it. I'll basically do the same stuff I did to the 74 before it: drop, interior/exterior trim pieces, interior/exterior clean-up, some bumpers, & exhaust.

I guess it's time for another update. I'm really, actually, no bs-ing, closer to getting it PC'd.

I got off work yesterday & spent the day re-stripping the rails & various x-members to try & get any residual grinding gouges out so that when sand-blasted, everything has a nice, smooth finish for the PC. About 3/4 through stripping the pass side frame rail, my DA took a crap. I've done this drill before (get 6hrs non-stop work time but spend most of it chasing parts/tools) & it was frustrating so I kept it going forward....

The chassis is no longer a chassis. I had that sucker 100% apart in a little over an hour (working solo). The rails & rear end housing are still in the shop (need to finish that pass side rail) but everything else was loaded into the dually & is waiting for the trip Monday to the PC shop.

I hope to convince 'her' of the need to allow some late-night shop time tonight so I can get things loaded first thing tomorrow am.
