Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
I forgot to mention here that last Wednesday was the GM Tech Center Employee car show...
It was supposed to rain late in the day, so I took the truck - Not much attention paid to the lil Red pickup; certainly not as much as the Lotus Seven to my left, or to the original owner '58 (that had been drag raced since '58) on my right. As if on cue, here came the rain! Complete set of show pics can be found here, if any are interested: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=414059 K

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Another year has passed -
Today is lil Red's birthday (observed)! The build documents say Sept 29, but the warranty book says October 2nd so I just go with that. 25 years old today! Happy birthday, lil Red! K

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Somebody has a birthday today.....a couple somebodies, actually.
My son Joseph turns 15 today and Red turns 26! Actual build was Monday Sept 29, 1986 (shipped Tuesday Sept 30) but the warranty book says October 2nd so I just go with that. Happy birthday to you both! K

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Hey, I paid attention to the truck! You weren't handy so I couldn't get in, but other than the color (I'm a fridge white guy) I love it. I was particluary enjoying the dings in the wheel houses in the bed, shows that even though it's pretty it's a real truck!
And were there a lot of nice 66-69 impala types or what/ 69 Caprice with hideaways right in front of a 69 SS427! 66,67, 68 Biscayne 2-door posts including one that is now a 427 car! We GM'ers sure do own some of the finest!

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Thanks, guys -
Just noticed it's been a full year since I finished my truck.... ... and it's still "done"! So far so good, still shooting for 200,000 (up to 188,000 currently). I also have learned I will have a Volt captured test fleet vehicle from November through March, so I might be able to keep Lil Red from seeing snow this winter. K

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Hey Keith
I met you years ago at the old nsca/nmca races. At the time I was racing my black '66 Nova. You might remember it? It's been gone for a few years now, but I just got a nice '78 Cheyenne. Hope all is going well with you. -Tom Last edited by 69subaru360; 09-17-2010 at 09:09 PM. |

Thats a cool pair of pics... other than the fender emblems, it looks identical to when it was new. not many people do that. I like it a lot!

Thank you; You have a good eye!
(I never liked those fender emblems, even when new). K

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Ouch! I think the VW may be totalled.
I love the truck. I just got a red 4x4 87' that I'm getting repainted (same color). I look at yours every now and then for inspiration. |

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Ouch, I guess its time for a chevy!
Hey Keith, When did they first start putting computers in these trucks. I always thought it was in 87 but ive heard it was earlier than that.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Keith is the source for first computer installed question, and I thought that it was 87, but (technically) the cruise control has a circuit board under the dash which I think could be called a "computerized" cruise control module.

I know my 84 had one in it. Not sure about the first year, but it was along with the ESC.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
A little update from work:
My job title was changed earlier this week. You may now call me.... "Lord Keith Seymore Earl of Scheib Duke of Ellington Grand Poobah of all He Surveyeth" I'm kidding, of course. Actually, I went from "Vehicle Engineer - Integration" to "Assistant Program Engineering Manager". Same job, just different naming. I like the "Assistant PEM" title better, because it's a bit more intuitive. Most folks (around here, anyway) know what a "PEM" is so an assistant is just a natural extension of that. I tended to use it informally before the change, just because it saved some explaning. We have some staffing changes coming in the next few weeks as we transition out of 2011 launch mode and prepare for the 2012 plant builds. Perhaps this is positioning me for that next step up: a full fledged PEM position. K
