Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
I had one too, crawled all over the 4 corners and northern AZ area in the 70's. I sold it and bought my current 59 Fleetside.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
My dad's '66 Wagoneer on the day he bought it, and later doing some backcountry exploration.
My dad had another Wagoneer, a J10 and a J20 at different times. I've still got a very early grille, a straight fender and a full set of hubcaps for early Jeeps. I've also got pictures of the J20 somewhere.

How about living in a mountain village where every vehicle is some sort of Power Wagon. Sounds like a fairy tale

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Well, it happened again!
I can't seem to shake the "green disease". Unlike most of my "other brand" 4x4/6x6 trucks which are GM, Kaiser Jeep or AM General, this one is a 1962 International. Originally a dump truck, somewhere along the line it was converted to a cargo bed. It's powered by a Continental 6602 gas engine. |

Hey Mudman, I have a 78 bronco with a 460. I've had it since I was 16, 17 years ago. It has been all over Idaho and Montana, playing in the mud and snow. I have pics somewhere, I have to do some digging.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Well, my bronco aint near as tough as yours, I bought it from an old guy when I was 16, he took pretty good care of it, it had the stock cb that plugs into the dash, white wagon wheels with 31x10.50's. stock 351 M, a nice ride. I took pretty good care of it, but I took it hunting, playing in the desert sand and mud here. I put 33X12.50 thornbirds on it when I was a senior, then when I graduated I drove it to college in Dillon MT. The summer between my freshman and sophmore year I put the 460 in. Nothing radical, stock 460, edebrock performer intake, cam, carb and timing set, thats about it, but what a HUGE difference from the old 351. What I liked is it dropped right in like it belonged there. I really started to play then, would try to climb anything I could find, any mudhole I came across I went through. It was my daily driver for 10 years, then I got my 69 together and started alternating between the 2. A few months ago I had tranny problems in the 69 so I was driving the bronco quite a bit. I was headed to my parents house to cut some wood and about 5 miles before there house I lost the rearend. Broke the pinion. So now it sits while I get a new ring and pinion for it. I think while I am at it I will rebuild the front end, its kinda sloppy, needs ball joints.
Anyway, sorry this is so long, and about a ford on a chevy site, but man I love that bronco. I got some pics that I will scan and post tonight.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
ok here are some pics, I could only find one of the thornbirds, when I first got them. Most of these are when I had the stupid BFG all terrains, NOT good tires. Here is when I put the 460 in, we had a few to many one night and got the yellow paint out

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
here are some more Bald mountain west of Dillon Mt in the background on this one
Topless at the Red Horse Mine north of Fairfeild Idaho And stuck in a 200 yard long snow drift in the blacktail mountains south of Dillon MT I will try to find more with the thornbirds, these are all in photo albums somewhere in the house and garage. I got those BFG's cheep when I graduated college, money was tight and like I said the bronco was my daily driver. The funny thing is I got more miles out of the thornbirds than I did the BFG's

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Thanks for the pictures of the Bronco, cool truck and fun too. May be a Ford on a Chevy site but at least it's not jap but on that note if done right just about anything can be cool for sure. Just came in from garage all night, built a short block 454, waiting for Dart parts to be dropped off, then tore down a 400 Small block Gm for the next project, Hotrodding just doesn't seem like work especially when you get to drive it and set it up later. Later odog.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
I hear ya, right now I am working on swapping 3/4 ton running gear under my truck. Going through front and rears to make sure they are good. I have two hobbies, one I get paid for, Im a driller and blaster here and I love my job, I get paid to use dynamite. The other hobbie is my truck and bronco. I gwt home at night and my 2 daughters and I will goto the garage and work on the axles, before that it was the transmission. We are always doing something. I am no mechanic, but I am not affraid to try and I hope my girls learn something in the process.
