Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"

Welded up my trailing arms. approx every 6 inches top and bottom.

Busted my nuts.

and got the cross shafts out of the control arms.

The control arms, trailing arms, sway bar, center link, spindles and everything else are going to get powder coated. I will drop them off next week.

Mocked up my Boyd's tank, drilled the flange holes on the tank. I used existing holes in the frame and 4 1/2-13 bolts. I am going to have to raise the tank 1.5" because I dont like how the filler neck sits below the top of the frame. Bolted it in for now, will have to come up with a solution to raise it up....

more of the tank bolted in... Dang this thing is sexy! great craftsmanship by Dave Boyd of Boyd welding, I would buy another and highly recommend them!

Last pic shows my issue with the height of the fill neck. Should have gotten the straight up filler neck.

Probably on the inner bedside with an access door. (not on the outside!)
Or maybe a marine filler in the bed floor if I raise the floor up.
Or maybe a popup filler where the stake hole used to be.
Or I don't know

Removed the tank and springs again and put what I think is the last coat of paint. Here are a couple dark pics, will have to get some daylight shots up later.

I will get the press back to you once my trailing arms return with a fresh coat of powder just incase i need to press the energy bushings in. You know now that you posted you don't have 383 posts anymore

Thanks. The summer of 2011, I did heads, cam, headers, stall, posi, etc, the Works to my '01 silverado. I needed a press to install the Comp Cams rocker arm trunion upgrade. I found that steel behind the shop at work and got an idea. It's nice to see plenty of use out of it. It's pretty heavy duty too, a bit overkill for the rocker arm job, but looks perfect for pushing on his frame.

I had the same problem with the install of a blazer tank in a 67 pickup. I put in angle iron in the frame for clearance. Installed a Hagen unit in the left rear fender for fill. Yours is painted now but, if you had to you could do the same for clearance....Jim

That looks nice Jim, nice job! I am still undecided here. The painting does not bother me I just kinda want it up higher anyway for ground clearance.

I like the build. I had the same peoblem with the 67 frame. Only one thing. I installed some washers to bring the gear box out. What world or might happen this way. Still not too late to change it. I am only at the frame stage now. Working on my cab and almosy done with the cab.

Hey Gdavis, I have seen many many people use spacers or washers to push the gear box out without problem. On the other hand I have seen a few rare reports or shimmy and vibration in the steering caused (allegedly) by the center link being off center and the drag link and pitman arm not being straight when driving straight. I am no expert on steering though that is just what I read on a couple threads here. I just decided that is the way GM did it in '68 on so I did it their way. Assuming I would eliminate the chance of having issues with it once the truck was assembled and driving then having to do this after causing me a big headache. Your truck is looking great buddy!

You might have a thought there about the drag links off center. Never thought of that. I think I will denple my frame while waiting for my parts. I am going to pick up a ton of parts in St. Peterburg, Fl. I am trying to save on the shipping. I will pick up about 2000.00 in parts. The shipping would be at least half of that if I ordered them. Anyway thanks for the information about vibration and noise. I don't want any head ackes in the future.

Thanks guys! I thought the Boyds tank was the star of the show .

Really the press is pretty ingenious, simple but ingenious. Daniel (Suspect) did a fine job. If you use it horizontally you have to have the valve on bottom in order to pump it up. You know how many times you are working on something large and think "If I could just stick it in the press" well now the press is portable. I may have to make one of my own, I found some heavy plate at work

Thats my 24k gold bolts! Not real sure if I should paint them or not. I have not torqued them down yet. What do you think, paint them or no? You pick anything up at B-J??

I wouldn't paint them. Bought a couple t-shirts and came back with some ideas. Very cool to see the level of detail some of these people go to.
