Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

This unit just showed up on my doorstep....looks very nice...some slight shipping damage to the fins but I think they'll straighten out with a comb...
Youd think for what it cost itd come with a armed escort....
Made by Griffin....

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Nice looking radiator and too bad about the fins...ouch.

Wondering about the lower outlet. Would having it on the other end of the tank help with hose fitment ?

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Doug, I thought about relocating the inlet and outlet so I could use a over the counter hose...but I wanted to keep my factory shroud and it wouldn't fit if I moved the hoses....ive already ruffly test fit some hoses on the old radiator and I think itll be fine...top and bottom hoses will be 2pc hoses..im machining some aluminum hose connectors for them..and on the top hose im adding a shoulder to put a fitting in for the steam line...
the bottom hose will be simple...2 hoses with 90deg ends will work....the top one will be a little trickier but should work

Gotcha, I should have known you would have a cool reason for that. Painting the radiator black?

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

yes sir....black it is...waiting on the eastwood black radiator paint as we speak...
since a good bit of the fins will be visible from the front and I didn't want it standing out,,griffin says the eastwood paint is all they recommend

Are you looking for a spring inside your lower hoses?

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Grumpy...I dont think I'll put one in at first...my other truck doesn't have one and I've never had a issue...but if it become a issue I'll definitely put a spring in....

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Also I have about 4 different projects for the truck going on at the same time...got one finished this afternoon...on my radiator hoses I know I'm going go have to use a 2 piece hose setup...so I made these coupling pieces to do that...on the top coupling i added a fitting for the steam port hose to hook up to...I've got to get the correct size brass 90 for it... I just stuck a spare fitting i had in to check thread depth....

Nice job on the machining! That looks better than the part I bought.

It was great to meet you and work together at Doug’s Wire and Fire. I could have done without all that ice after the storm but the event was a blast!

And it was nice to meet both of you.

I was whining about the white out conditions driving 20 miles to dinner Saturday night.

Those are nice pieces Greg. Looking forward to how it goes together.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Got another little bit done...well almost done...I'm keeping the original gauge cluster ...
The original only has temp and fuel gauge and lights for gen and oil...I wanted all gauges..and they needed updated to modern type standards...
So I gutted the old gauges out....
I had to do some surgery on the panel for the new gauge cleareance... pic is what a original looks like ..

I started with the gauge panel...the 2 center spots where the lights were had to be opened up to match the outer openings.....

Then I started with a set of autometer 1-1/2" short swing gauges...I had to remove the faces of the gauges to fit against the dash glass...I couldn't find a 1-1/2 fuel gauge so I had to use a 2" for it..
2nd pic shows layout...
