Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Verified that the knocking sound in the engine of my 1990 C1500 is most definitely coming from the bottom end
Spun a bearing I think, on the hunt for a swap engine as I don't have time to rebuild right now.

95 GMC C1500 SLE. New lower ball joints, tie rods, idler arm and pitman arm and front shocks. Still need the upper ball joints and control arm bushings and my front end will be good as new.

Put on a new grille, changed headlights and marker lights back to OEM, added hir1 and hir2 bulbs, new driver side exterior and interior door handle, and installed a heavy duty headlight harness with the 4hi option that was made by gmachinz.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

I did nothing to the 91, it's pretty much parked for the winter.

I did see that there is a transmission fluid leak and the idler arm is starting to go out. So I'll order some parts and fix it in the spring.

Swapped the cheap fuel pump in the dually to an ACDelco unit, ran a compression test on the 99 ccsb to see if I could get away with just intake gaskets, answer is no! Also did some wetsanding to my non 88-98. 😁

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

I pulled the 91 off the road today. After 27 years and 236000km, it's finally getting some much needed TLC. The idler arm is going out on it and the pivot for the tilt is too lose to feel comfortable driving it. And the headliner is getting wet in heavy rain, so I think the windshield seal needs to be replaced. The original ball joints however are still tight, try that with a newer truck. So, I'm going to gut the interior, put in some much needed sound deadening, shampoo the carpet, pull the headliner and have it re-done (liner is sagging pretty back), fix the column and a few cracked panels and then put it all back to getting, good as new.
Going to go through the engine bay and clean up some old wiring that's no longer required and fix the powersteering bracket the previous owner cut, change the fluids and filters, and de-grease the engine and inner fenders.
After all the that and the idler arm, it'll be good for another 235k km lol... Still planning to paint it in 2021 when it turns 30 years old.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Can't believe the distributor cap died on my truck just sitting home in the driveway but thanks to Canadian Tire being open on Sunday and a drive there from a family member we were mobile again within an hour. After the swap to a new cap and rotor I tested the old cap and found ZERO continuity between the coil wire post and the button inside that sits on the rotor. Never saw anything like that before....
