Re: 1969 Short Wide
Time for a mild update. Progress has been pretty slow. Things get pretty slow this time of year with fishing and golf seasons taking over most our free time. I have worked on it a little though. I got the rear end all cleaned up primered and painted, then installed new seals all around. I blasted the outer brake mount plates, primered and painted them too. Then reassembled the third member and installed the axles. Got one side of the brakes assembled. Then found out I only ordered the right hand side of the brake hardware. I'll probably just clean up the old hardware and re-use most of it. I also picked up a 4l60E on Craigslist the other day, supposed to only have 70k miles on it? It looks pretty greasy. We'll see when I pull the pan. Here are the pics:

Dunno man a leaky valve cover and make anything look nasty in only a couple thousand miles so lets hope that it is good in there when you drop the pan

Thanks.
Yep, I have high hopes. We'll see. It won't break the bank as a core if it needs rebuilt anyway. You know how cheap I am. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Trans looks about right to me, my 30K engine/trans was just about that bad.........yet my 00 Silverado was perfectly clean with 130K and I only sprayed it off twice.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Time for another small update. I have just about finished the rear suspension modifications. Got the brakes installed, got the front sway bar installed.
I picked up an adjustable panhard bar from Tom (T Korinek) HERE. Then I lengthened it 12.5".......which turned out to be around 4" too long after my mock up at ride height (measure once cut twice). I used some pics from Keith (lolife99) of his pandhard relocation mount to design my own. I have it painted and ready for final install. Next step is new shocks for the rear and brake lines, then gas tank and lines. Can't wait to get to the LS install after that. It will be downhill from there. Here are the pics: Bar sectioned Made a 12.5" lenthener (4" too long shoud be 8.5") Bar Welded the second time Mock up to decide where to weld the mounting tabs Pieces for the mount (decided not to use the gusset, upper middle) assembled before welding Welded Fit on the chassis |

More pictures:
Planning for sway bar mounting (had to remove rivet on the cross member) Sway bar installed, not a big fan of the blue bushings, that's what Rock Auto sent me.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks man. I hope those little details will help make it easier for someone take on part of the fabrication on their own. There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum. Most of my build is just someone elses ideas that I tweaked to make it work on the cheap.

Nice roller, I don't care what they say about you, you do have other talents than just fishing. LOL.
