That sucks. But I am glad you let us know. I am afraid we will see more of this coming from China. Rich

Re: 58 TRUK intro
Thats sad news ogre. I've always had good luck with classic parts. I hope they get the quality control problems fixed.

Re: 58 TRUK intro
mr ogre sir was my father... back in the era when all adults wanted to be mr, mrs, sir and mam
i'm just an ogre.. and thank you just venting out of frustration of having to do the job 3 or 4 times due to crappy parts got an email from amazon that the new speedo won't ship until mid august, which means they don't have it in stock so i have to tear the bad speedo out to ship it back and put truk back together sans speedo if i want to drive it

Re: 58 TRUK intro
I don't blame you. This hobby / business is challenging enough to do when the parts are good. My experience last couple of years has been Vintage Air, Dakota Digital, and ididit all worked great and had excellent instructions. Just about every other part (brakes, fuel tank, LS harness and programming, etc etc) had issues or failures to work through. Frustrating and time / energy consuming.
Sorry to hi-jack....stepping off the soap box now. |

Re: 58 TRUK intro
steppin on da soapbox and meanin; no disrespect
For a lot of these parts we pay good hard earned money for ................just sux and is v v sad - quality control is terrible - i have had the same issues with fenders and other parts ; just poorly made - and the answer i get is '' o well'' that is not good enough - we as a country pride ourselves in making good ''quality'' things..........at least it used to be - scouring the yards may be the only way to go not all companies are like this - but the ones i have dealt with like the cheaper parts - i guess we are supposed to grin and deal with it . ok ..................i am done steppin off da box. |

Re: 58 TRUK intro
Good grief Charley Brown (aka _Ogre), how do you even THINK up all these super mods, let alone how to actually make them? If you're about done & thus bored, come help me with my 55.2. I'm trying to locate a left-front-side-fill gas tank for the rear of my 55.2 (close, but no good fit so far), to then remove the cab's tank and build my console. I see you use cardboard stacked on its edge for strength needed for your cardboard "molds" to hold their shape - excellent idea. Where do you get all the cardboard, buy boxes? Your cited a fiberglass website link, but it does not work. Any other ways to get there? Console is super-good, craftsmanship is beyond excellent throughout. Is your Shifter still on the column, I don't see it? Mine to go in Console, plus a dashboarddevices.com computer screen & system (much cheaper than a new truck)! I'm using very high-back Chrysler seats with integral seat belts. They do NOT block my rear view. Fine website, super-duper _Ogre thread = good photos, words a bit cryptic at times, more detail please. Your oldest fan - building my 1st street rod w/ modified '69 SBC 302 (Z/28) & 700R4. Murf

Re: 58 TRUK intro
where was this offer when it was 14* below zero with 94 inches of snow on the ground???
thanks for the kudos i have a column shift 700r4, i wanted to keep the console free for electronics. as for fiberglassforums.com? it died i learned everything fiberglass from there. i didn't use any molds, more like fabrication bucks, they can be made from anything use cardboard mailing tubes for curved section, paint sticks and scraps of wood for bracing, plywood, mdf frames for speakers, switches, headrest monitor and the single din receiver. i prefer single din receivers as they are cheap and easily sourced, i added the 7'' headrest monitor but have never used it the monitor will not be in the next console version most important is to start by figuring out how to fasten in the part your making to make it easily removable make a frame and use cloth over the frame for starting the fiberglass shape. fiberglass is not that hard once you figure out how to fasten and brace everything

Just wondering how you are doing on your speedometer problems? I would be more than happy to give you some help with it if you need it. I have never heard any thing good about aftermarket speedometers. I could rebuild an original one for you if you are interested. Let me know if you need any help with this. Take care, Tom

I'd love to do the Power cruise, even just a section of it. If I ever get the chance to travel back to the US I might have to check the timing / dates.

Re: 58 TRUK intro
typically the power tour is the first week in june
while we did have issues with getting into events it is the most fun you can have in a week in a truk
