Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

my opinion, it just looks wrong. the step side fenders look oversize and out of proportion to the rest. just me though. somebody somewhere is in love with it.

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

It mainly needs AD fenders rather than TF fenders.

Someone had one around here like that when I was a kid that had and AD box and fenders that was just their work truck. Word was that it was rear ended when it was pretty new and was done by who ever bought it as salvage. No one ever thought it was a custom then and it wasn't treated as being anything special by the owner. I've seen a few others of various brands done that way over the years but they were usually pretty crude in the way they were done. One had a sheet of plywood for the back panel in the cab.

Nice paint, not crazy about the too tires for the width of the truck or "the too tall for a woody wagon" look. That's just my opinion though. Actually, let me ask the wife if I can have an opinion today, lol.

I shoulda done that to my panel truck. It woulda been easier to add wood to the side than fix dents

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

That would all depend on if you are a better cabinet maker than a metal worker.

As far as the tires and wheels on the burb, tires and wheels have never been a deal breaker for me unless the seller just stuck them on in hopes of jacking the price up beyond reality. That being the would be flipper who buys a thousand dollar TF shorty and sticks on a set of garish 22's in hopes of selling it for 5K. Those deep offset rallys and big tires would sell in a few hours on Craigslist or FB marketplace around here and a guy could put Wheels and tires on it that tucked in under the fenders if that was the look he wanted.

I remember back in the early 70's when I was working at the Firestone store in Waco, a used car dealer who did a lot of business with us had two 66 Mustangs on his lot a red one with mag wheels and white letter tires and a green one with white walls and factory hubcaps. Some guy and his son were in looking at the red Mustang but the dad wouldn't buy it because it had the mags and wide tires. Said it had obviously been hot rodded around town. A few days later a guy goes in and wants the green one but only if the dealer will swap the mag wheels off the red one to it. The dealer and his lot guy brought them up to Firestone and fifteen minutes later we had them out the door with the wheels swapped. He sticks the red one back on the lot and a couple of days later the same guy who was looking at the red one shows up and has a fit over it as it being just exactly what he was looking for and the dealer quoted him a higher price than he had had on it before and he bought it on the spot. Clueless to the fact that it was the same car he had looked at before.

I like it. I wonder what they used to make it a 4X4. I've always liked wood station wagons and this looks pretty good to me. The frame part of the wood was simple and it looks like the panels are just brushed on but the effect is good.

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

I'm going to say that that red burb has had a chassis swap, probably mid 70's chassis.

As far as the wood sides go. Probably marine grade veneer if it isn't painted with the framework being hardwood similar to what you would actually see on a woodie.

That woody panel was listed at 22k, but it sold. There is a video at that website.
Here is an affordable GMC panel. Someone buy this, so I don't!

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

That Panel has a lot of possibilities. The RV windows are accept or hate but pretty typical of a PNW panel converted to a huntin and fishin rig back 50 years ago.

A 3/4 ton long wheel base panel sure would be a nice tow rig though.

That's a good town and area to convince your wife that you need to take a road trip to pick up a panel too. Lots of interesting stuff to see and do in Port Townsend and that area in general for folks who might be willing to travel from out of the area.

That looks like the canopy my at the time step father had a Poulsbo Wa sheet metal shop (hvac) make for his 54 3100 with side windows added. That one was all galvanized though.

Re: Post your C/L finds for everyone to enjoy!

AD at a local Estate Sale... They are doing a very annoying "auction" where they don't give an estimated price for the truck, just accept offers and then decide if they get one high enough that they'll sell the truck.

There's no requirement to actually sell to the highest bidder, so its not really an auction. Just their way to try and make sure they're not accepting an offer when there might be a better one afterwards.
