Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Got some work done on the new frame. Had some new rails bent up to go along with the PorterBuilt Fab front and rear coil-over suspension kits!

ChuckDriver....ok, so I'm just surfing around and I end up finding the last batch of pics you posted, I haven't paid attention to the title of the site I'm on, but I swear it's got to be something to do with NASA.

Just my weird way of saying "wow" without actually saying it.

WOW, Jim

Jim, if you use NASA to describe my build, then I must say you're building a colony on Mars!!

Thanks guys!

I'm gonna raise the bar again....

I rarely post on this thread except for monumental achievements. Yesterday was time for bed installation. I have a friend, Gary, who has been wanting to participate on my truck build, I am so glad he came over, we got the bed on the truck with no issues.

During my build I knew I wanted two tone, I've seen many different ways to split the colors. I chose to follow the main body line but as we all know, the rear fenders drop this body line some 3 or 4 inches. Up til the last day I finally decided how I was going to blend the pin stripes together. Pictures tell the story.

That's the outcome, I don't like to clutter this thread, I'll post the rest of the pics on my build thread listed below. Jim

JJ,
What he's saying is your build is, "out of this world!" Lol

By the way, since I've never ever asked you before what WERE your color plans for your truck when it was going to be a stepside and what have they changed to (if they have) now that it will be a Cameo.......or whatever Jimmy "Cameo's" we're called?

Like I used to tell my girls when I posed them with my cars, every old car picture needs a beautiful girl in it. Nice work on the bed and good looking helper.

Drove it 30 miles to work this morning...

Gonna pick up a new sheet of plywood for a new bed floor at the HW store at lunchtime, and my new 3point seat belts & some other goodies should be waiting for me when I get home tonight, so i'll have a few small projects to goof around with.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

After 6 months of repairing sheetmetal and replacing panels on cab, finally started working on doors. Got the first door hung back on to fit new inner bottom/outer skin before welding. Got back gaps close. Now working on slicing the front, top area to fit. Still a long ways to go....

Cheers, Jim

make sure you hang your fender to check that clearance too. Your will find from the factory 3 out of 4 are close, one will be off and you either live with it or start cutting or adding material.

I sprayed my bed-liner today.

SEM Pro-Tex tintable. Tinted with the same RAL-6009 Fir Green that the truck is painted with.

I sprayed it all this morning. I was out there before 6AM.
There were warning labels packed in the bed-liner box about spraying it in hot, humid conditions which is exactly what we had been having. Pot life is severely reduced and flash times have to be well longer.
So, I put the bed-liner cans in cool water last night and started early. It worked out perfect. Normal flash times are 20 minutes but because the humidity was 90%, I gave each coat an hour.

Because the whole prepare process took me longer to do than I had figured and I was getting later in the recoat window of the SPI epoxy, I decided to scuff it all with 180 sandpaper just to make sure I wouldn't have any adhesion problems. So, that took me even longer. I've worked on this every day this week and finished the final step of masking yesterday evening. I did that well. I didn't want to take any chances getting the bed-liner on anything I didn't want it on. Here's yesterday's photos:

Today's photos after removing the all the masking. The directions have you unmask as soon as the final coat is complete.

This SEM Pro-Tex is good stuff. I'm impressed. I had enough for 3 coats of everything. It called for 2 to 3 coats and you have full-coverage by the second coat.

It sprays easy and is easy to make it look just like you want with how heavy you put it on and how close you hold the gun. I backed the distance off and went a little lighter on the last coat to give it a little more rough look. If a person wanted it to look more smooth, it would be easy to do but I liked it better a little on the rough side.

I think the color came out just great too and my wife (truck is for her) is extremely pleased with the whole look.

Make no mistake though. This makes a mess of your shop. Oh well, nice to have a room I built for abuse.

Next I will work towards getting the bed painted so I can mount it on the truck and get the room back to work on the paint prep for the fenders, doors and hood.
