Lets see if i can get this to work.
Bottem picture is from when i first got started,but you get the idea.im still sorting out the cab mounts so i can get it sitting square then i can get to work on new floors ,cab corners and rockers......... Then i can pull the cab back off and have it stripped at the blaster. the frame is raised under rear of cab on newer frame to clear gas tanks im thinking which complicates things a little,Icould have just put the springs under the 69 frame i guess but i was too lazy to cut off all of those real steel rivets between the 2 frames! Once i get the body back off ill get started on my dana 60 front end and 14 bolt floater rearend swap,Im thinking it will look pretty cool with a set of eagle alloy bud wheels all the way around and a flatbed with body repainted origional colors. any suggestions or complaints? yeah i know the yellow driveshaft came with the chassis,it will be gone soon! hahaha Last edited by plummen; 07-27-2011 at 09:26 PM. |

Yep,the c-clip rear axle kind of gives it away but the price was right!
I tried finding a k30 with a flat frame to use but all the ones i looked at were pretty well hammered so im just going to graft 1 ton axles/suspension on to this frame and some extra cross members. Id like to stick a cummins in this thing to really screw with peoples heads like one of your projects,but i like traveling a lot of back highways and diesel fuel can be tough to find in some ares |

With a new set of cab mounts you can bolt them to the 67-72 brackets, bolt the brackets & mounts to the cab and use the brackets to square the cab to the frame. The square body cab mount brackets don't line up well enough to use them. The core support & front bumper are the fun part as they are in a different location and need some creativity. I am cutting the frame horns off some scrap 67-72 frame rails and will graft them into the square body frame as needed.

Im using the front cab mounts from the 69 frame on the newer chassis(12 rivets )i bolted them on with 1/2" grade 8 bolts,so i dont think theyll be an issue anyway.
The biggest issue so far is the hump in the frame,ive been under there scratching my head thinking of best way to remove it so i dont have 12" of clearance between my front fenders and tires! The weird part is theres only about 2 1/2" of clearance between the front wheel wells and top of frame rail. Any way Ill either take a section of the 69 frame to put in place of hump in newer frame or ill have a section of frame rail custom made to weld in there and "double frame " the outside of that section like a dump truck frame. Good thing i used to work at a steel foundry about a mile from here,ive still got access to lots of things the average person would kill for |

I measured the core support location between the 2 frames,the one on the 69 appears to be back right around 1 1/2" from the newer frame,of course its mounted to the top of the front spring perch to help support it,more rivets!
Has anybody used a newer rear axle out of a chevy 2500hd truck under one of these?I know they have c-clip style axles in them but they come with big ol disc brakes on back already. I helped a friend swap out his shelled out 2001 1/2t rearend to a 2500 hd rearend which was pretty simple other than a u-joint swap in his case. The yard we bought his from has 2-3 2500hd's sitting out there there with posi rearends for $350 including rotors/calipers ,just kicking the idea around to see if its any cheaper than doing a disc brake swap on a 14 bolt rearend . |

The 14 bolts are pretty easy to come by around here anyway,the last 2 dana 60s ive come across were for dually trucks

put some lift bocks on so everything would sit rails right. if you look at the wheel wells you can see the gap it suxs but im trying to find a way to close it up but make it look right

ive got a roll off that black plastic skirting stuff that goes in between the body/frame for a 2" body lift kit to hide the gap.
free to good home if somebody can use it,new still in box |

Thanks man. I'm not really sure on the lift size but it's big enough to clear 38.5" boggers no problem. Yeah I get alot of looks in so cal I guess it's cause I don't drive a lifted truck on 22s with a low pro mud tire haha.

Yeah, it's hard to beat those Excursions and F350's with 12 inches of lift riding on 24" wheels and the only off roading they do is driving down vendors row in Glamis.
