Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
Hey J...you had asked for info on cutting the door frame. I asked and it was actually done by glock and here's the thread with some pictures. As you can see I was mistaken on where the cut was made.

Truck is looking good! Great attention to detail! Looks like you may need to drop that seat down a foot or two to be comfortable in there! Keep up the great work !

Just read the whole thread - at every point of this build your attention to detail and craftsmanship is not just noticeable, but outstanding. I've read a few "I'm gonna steal that idea!"....I think I'm gonna steal all your ideas!

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
very awesome build.. Just when I thought I did a really clean job with my airline and brake line I saw this thread and my mind is blown! so so so awesome.. and the door trimming tip is outstanding. my driver door is so tight in the upper corner it makes me sick to think i ignored it, now ive got chipped paint there ha ha. maybe time for a little revision and spotting in my upper door frames!

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
Got the drivers side door finished. The curved part of the window frame was just about hitting the cab, so some reconstructive surgery happened. I had two pairs of doors; the doors that were original to the cab which were rusted to hell on the bottom, and a second pair I bought that were rust free. So what I did was took the window frame out of the original doors (kind of as practice to make sure I could get the window frame out) and put the window frame in the good shells. I also cut the frame at the upper left hand corner to fix the door gap in that area. Then I positioned the window frame in the door shell where I wanted it and spot welded it back in. Here is a before and after:
BEFORE AFTER This is what it looks like after you get it out Here is the frame out and where I cut and welded it Here is how the other door gaps came out. Not too shabby for a first timer! Remember, I replaced the entire floor, both lower pillars, cab corner, and the rocker. I'm pretty happy with the results. The right end of the rocker was sliced and new metal put in to align with the door. You've probably seen this before, but here is a way to be able to hold a small filler piece of meta,l that you cant get behind, for welding. Last one of the day: Here is how to bolt a door on all by yourself. I had a piece of left over steel that was in the shape of a "c". One lip was small enough to tuck under the door so I could bolt a strap to it and lift the door with a hoist. |

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
That's a cool trick...maybe a picture of what the steel piece looks like. It looks like it really helped to get them on with good gaps.
