You're going to need a '68-'87 C series power steering box with the pitman arm, and my adapter plate to mount the box to the frame. If you are keeping the original steering column you may also consider the tube and flange, if you do not have access to a drill press and welder. Additionally you will need a power steering pump, brackets and hoses for your 292.
Would you happen to have any info on where I could find the pump brackets?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

There is a seller on ebay that fabricates some nice PS, alt and AC brackets for the Chevy I6 engines. Have you checked in the '67-'72 classifieds here on the forum? They show up over there every so often also.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I have a 62 chevy truck that I need a power steering adapter plate and power brake booster adapter for. I have an excellent donor car (1975 monte carlo). Can I use the power steering box, steering column and power brake booster from this car with your adapter plates?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I do not yet have a power steering box adapter plate for the '60-'62's. Hopefully in the next few months. However I have sold a few of these to guys that have made them work on their '60-'62's. You can not use any car steering box on your truck. It must be from a '68-'86 C series or '87-'91 R series pickup, Suburban or 2wd K5 Blazer.

I am not familar with the Monte Carlo boosters, so I do not know if they are compatable with my booster bracket. Does your truck have an auto trans or does it still have a manual trans with the hydraulic clutch?

As for the steering column, most anything can be done if you want to put the work into it to make it work. In other words, it will not be a simple bolt in swap.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Hello Captain.
I recently purchased one of your adapter plates.
I will start with what I have, I ordered my parts for a 70 chev pick-up. My truck is a 65 C20
Cardone 27-7501 box which has the Saginaw # 7802644 on it.
Moog K 6131 pitman arm.
The differences are that on the template the center of shaft to center of pitman arm measurement is 6 1/2 inches.
The measurment of pitman arm is 6 1/4 inches.
Do I have the wrong pitman arm ?
Or is the quarter inch nothing to worry about.

As expected your plate and steering shaft adapter look great.

Thanks

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

No you do not need this adapter plate. A power steering box will bolt right up to your frame. The trucks from '68 up were available with integral power steering, so the frame will accomodate the box.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

The pitman arms should be 5-1/4" center to center. I just checked the template and it does show to be 5-1/2". I did not realize that. I will have to see about correcting that. The main thing to be concerned with is the hole locations.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Thanks for getting back so fast.
I did forget that when I took those measurments I started at 1 inch on the tape.
Interesting no one else picked up on that.
Good thing is I have the right Pitman.

Thanks Cal.

I have a local friend (non member) that needs a plate for his '63 2wd. Is there a way he can contact you directly? Do you take pay-pal or what are you payment options?
I also sent you a PM

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

[QUOTE=Captainfab;6500400]I do not yet have a power steering box adapter plate for the '60-'62's. Hopefully in the next few months. However I have sold a few of these to guys that have made them work on their '60-'62's.

Hi Captainfab,
just wondering if you have had a chance to make up an adapter plate for the '60-'62 frames yet or if you will have one in the near future? I hope to do the conversion on my '62 in the next 2-4 weeks.

Also wondering if any of you guys that have installed Captinfab's adapter plate on your '60-'62 frames can give any feedback on how the plate worked and if there were any modifications (from the instructions supplied) needed to make the plate work? Pics of your '60-'62 install would be great too, could not find any on this thread.
Thanks.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I do not yet have a power steering box adapter plate for the '60-'62's. It's been tough to get this done with Winter, still working 70-80 hrs a week and trying to make room in my shop to work on it. I haven't given up, but I can not make any promises as to exactly when I will get it done.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

i am new to all this, so please excuse my ignorant question. currently working on my 1965 c10 and was wondering, whats the purpose of the adapter plate? does it serve as a extra support for gear box?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

The adapter plate is needed to install a '68-'87 power steering box to the '60-'66 frames as the power steering box is not flat on the side that bolts to the frame.

thanks Captainfab for the info . might be getting one from you soon, i believe the previous owner of my 65' did not use something like that, tried looking around and see nothing. one last newbie question: my steering shaft looks to be about an inch or so too long with steering box it now has, can i just cut the shaft to length and then secure it somehow to the rag joint?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

When installing power steering, the steering column shaft must be shortened. The installation instructions give you the exact measurement and show you how to reuse the original flange. However if you do not have a drill press and a welder, the tube and flange that I sell makes the connection very easy.

Thanks again for the great info Captainfab . How much do you sell this kit for? and you mention that instructions are included right?, as I mentioned before I am learning as I go, zero experience under my belt, so all your info is greatly appreciated.
