Re: My 65 Pickemup project
The one on ebay is not mine, but in similar condition. I bought it at Pomona for my '62 (also tan OG paint), but the whole time I was thinkin' Delmos old '65 could use this ..or not.
Incidentally, those near NOS chains from the ebay gate could get you about a hundred bucks alone. Last edited by oem4me; 01-20-2012 at 07:15 PM. |

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
My son has a set of wheels like these, he is going to put them on a 1987 Silverado. He likes the hubcap idea, we thought they must have machined the wheel out for them to fit. Your idea looks like it would be the least costly! Did you have alot of issues doing this or not? Did the clips come with the hubcaps? Where did you purchase the hubcaps & clips from? Any help from you would be appreciated.

Very nice. I'm not sure exactly why, but this truck remains a stand out example among custom trucks for me. Being a stocker kind of guy, I tend to look past most modified jobs and train my focus on the original survivors. This truck is different. It has something, or many things that set it apart from the rest. Sure, the patina is the first thing you notice, but the balance of legitimate age and new technology is first rate, and Del's choice of finishes on the new stuff was perfect. I've said it before, but tasteful restraint is what makes this ride what it is. Whether entirely on purpose or even partly accidental, he plain nailed it. I couldn't tell you where this one fits in the sequence of Del's builds, but from my perspective, this is the one that put him on the map. I'm hoping that as this truck is passed along from owner to owner, it retains that "thing" that it has, and does not get lost to time like so many milestone customs of the past. Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Well I wasn't sure if I was ever going to post anything about purchasing the 65 from Sam, but here we go. My name is Dan my love for this truck began as I watched Del's build of truck unfold on this thread. I contacted Del but I was about a month to late, he had already sold the truck to Sam. Del and I spent about six months trying to find a new truck to build for me and we ended up buying one from another member. I had a change of heart on the new build because I had a unfinished 63 nova project that I decided to finish first. I gave Del a good deal on the truck we purchased which Dino ended up building into his pro street truck. Once the nova was finished I still had to have one of these old trucks and never forgot Del and Sams 65 so I reached out to Sam and to my suprise a deal was reached about a month or so later. The truck has been home here in Washington about 5 months and I've done a few things to make in my own. After a couple of months of looking for a bbw donor cab for the inner panel and hours of drilling spot welds I got the inner panel out and preped for the install. I had my buddy Scott actually installed the panel and it turned out awesome. We did not touch any exterior paint as we did not want to hurt the great patina the truck has. Here are a few pics after the install and some with the new take off tail gate from earlier in the thread. I hope you all like. thanks again Sam for the smooth transaction and Del your work is as good in person as seen in pics.

I agree with Nate. I didn't think this truck could get any cooler. BBW made a huge difference. Simply BAD @$$! The tailgate matches perfect also!

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
wow, as if that truck couldn't get any better...then it does, lol....i have to say, it has passed through some good hands...often to my dismay, a cool vehicle leaves the initial creator and is never quite the same...so glad to see everyone keeping with the originality of this truck! in my opinion, it truly does make it what it is

I'd also agree with what Nate said. It's been changed, but for the better. The straight gate is nice too, no more visual hiccup. Good job ... you are worthy. lol Last edited by oem4me; 05-20-2012 at 12:53 AM. |

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Thanks again for all the positive feedback. I wasn't sure how people were going to react to me changing the truck which is why I didn't know if I was going to post anything. It was hard to decide if doing a big window conversion was the right thing to do or not because of how well known the truck is. Now that it is done I can't imagine it anyother way.
Dino I was glad to see the green truck (pro street) go to a good home. I love what you did to it |
