Sliding back glass almost installed

Hi, when I asked Gary which back glass should I purchase~ I show him the pics of the choices, the piece of glass or this sliding back glass~ which also costs more of course, but that's how I get what I want, otherwise if I just order it and don't tell him, he asks "how much did that cost?" cause he sees the cost through the bills! Can't hide a darned thing!

I'm still not done, I couldn't get the rest of the locking strip in! I ordered a tool that's supposed to make the job easier, but it will be a few days before I get it. My wrists are horribly sore from this job!

Re: My '59 Apache

I'm not sure I understand what you're explaining.

The bubbly stuff is the "radiant barrier", right? If it's the stuff I'm describing as coming from Home Depot I'm almost positive that you couldn't, ...put the radiant barrier up by itself. It's rigid enough that I didn't have to glue it and it stayed put.

I think it's too "floppy" for lack of a better word. Or when you wrote that did you mean the ABS sheet you're using as a headliner? When I looked at your photos I thought you'd installed a stock white rubber headliner. I THINK they came in white for the Cameos (?)

So you're saying that NOTHING you put up there is glued? What about the rubber around the edge? Mine is the stock black one and I've assumed all along I would have to glue it AND the stock headliner in.

My truck was painted already, inside and out, and the inner portion where I put the radiant barrier was clean. yes, it's the same bubbly aluminum looking stuff that you can buy in a roll at HOme depot/lowes, etc,. I cut it the same size as the headliner, then I put the radiant barrier up by itself. It's rigid enough that I didn't have to glue it and it stayed put. There is very little space between the headliner and the interior cab! Then I wrestled with the headliner and finally got it in. Before you would put the headliner, be sure your dome light wiring is up there already as it runs along the drivers side headliner area and the wiring goes down the post/window then exits under the dash. Luckily my wire to my dome light was still there, otherwise you'd have to devise a way to pull the wire through that same way. If you have any questions, I'm always around!

Re: My '59 Apache

ET56- summer is getting close and Ac would be nice eh?. But the slider back window is nice!!!

Omg it was a gorgeous day here in Houston! I felt energized! So I removed the 2" spacers from the rear and the trucks stance looks much better! I also installed the speedometer cable, but the screw on collar that screws onto the tranny wouldn't screw on all the way because of the little metal thing that holds the speedometer thing inside the transmission, it's on, but very loose.
Oh, then installed the p side anchor for the seat belt for the shoulder harness.

I did start it to turn the truck around. Thinking about exhaust again, I just want to install the emergency brake system before exhaust, haven't got around to thinking about rigging this up yet. That's it until next week.

Brothers trucks called and said my order was misplaced but is being shipped today, free shipping!! Carpet, mirrors, etc. are on the way!!

I like the stance but i'm partial to the 60's look with a little rake. Thats the way we drove them back then, In Lincoln Nebr. anyway.

Re: My '59 Apache

Gee Dan, I don't know how I missed your post! When I say bubbly stuff(did I say bubbly) it's a silver looking (see picture)stuff. I put this stuff up as its kind of rigid, and stayed up long enough for me to install the headliner. It's white, I said not quite abs, has some pliability to it. I only had two choices of color and white seemed to be the logical choice as it really brightens the cab. Now, did I make sense this time

Re: My '59 Apache

that's the same material I used for a heat shield and sound deadener on my firewall, floor and the back wall of the cab. I used Super 77 spray adhesive on both surfaces and it's STUCK for good now.

The stance looks A LOT better now. Gives it more attitude.

Re: My '59 Apache

It's strikes me funny that not long ago I thought I was going to be driving my truck cause I was making some good progress~ hah.

See what you think of the stance on this truck on this link! My brother doesn't like its stance, but he never comes over to help and it's my truck and I'll do what I want Since I have the dual posie sliders up front, these may be a good choice for my truck.
http://www.posiesrodsandcustoms.com/...-12-ton-truck/

So, maybe say, 45 years ago? people forgot that these trucks have grease fittings! I think these greaseable bushings if properly greased would have lasted forever!

I was getting a little worried that I was not going to get these little peckers out! lol Solidaxle said allthread and press them out~ I just was too lazy to go to ACE to buy stuff~ So I had enough swing room and a perfectly fitting 5/8" impact socket~ and with my ear plugs in place, a mighty swing, many mighty swings~ they came out! Eureka! I know these are probably not the worst by any means, but they needed to come out~ like a bad tooth! Notice my creeper seat~ I was putting the leaf springs under the truck and it caught my creeper seat and flipped it;stuff went flying!

Notice I have my bed up on blocks and strapped to not move. The front of the bed not shown is supported by my Maxjax lift, just the back arms. I just didn't have anywhere to put the bed and besides, no one to help me get it off. Brains over Brawn again. The back portion, I used both Little Mule I and Little Mule II, one on each side to lift the rear of the bed, then a few strategically placed blocks; just high enough to do what I need to do!

Re: My '59 Apache

I like the stance in the link. The reason those zerks do get used is if you do not do it on a regular schedule the grease hardens inside and you can't pump any thru. Then it becomes one of those "I will get around to fixing it later". Another one is lubing front wheel bearings, PITA but necessary.

IMHO I think the truck in the link is a little high especially in the front.

Yes, as far as you went. So did either of these materials get glued in?

What; if anything, did you use around headliner perimeter? As you know the stock headliner is thick and glues to the roof, then the perimeter rubber is nice and thick. Do you have Anything replacing it?

Re: My '59 Apache

Hi Dan! I glued neither~ Should I have? I'll find out on a really hot day what's going to happen. The way the headliner is, it's kind of bowed upwards/ a convexity I might say~ I don't know how it's going to behave like I said on a hot day. It may droop, but I doubt it. If it falls down, then I'll take care of it. It's not a difficult job other than ones arms might need a little rest from working overhead. I didn't do this, but I think that once the rubber retainer is cut to size, one probably is supposed to superglue the ends together to make one continuous loop. I didn't, it's not going anywhere. However, I still need to work on one corner that's not fitting as good as I would like it. I ordered both the rubber outer retainer and headliner from Brothers. The headliner is installed similar to installing a windshield without the drama.

Re: My '59 Apache

Howard, this truck was painted already~ I didn't ask the way they proceeded to paint it, but I'd figure that it was a metallic and a clear coat with flipflop of some sorts~ as in the sunlight, it will shimmer green, then the other direction will be the pretty color in the photo you saw earlier. Knowing what I know now, I'd prefer just a solid color of my choice with a CC. I think these trucks look best in what they came with.

I used that same heat shield material for my firewall, cab floor and the back wall of the cab behind the gas tank. This is the material you used under your headliner as well? I was contemplating gluing a piece to the roof and placing a headliner over top of it.
But I have to wait and see what my wife has in store for the headliner first. She's handling all the upholstery on the truck and I don't get to see it until it's done. It's a good thing I trust her judgement

Re: My '59 Apache

Hey dubie~ there is not much room between the headliner and the metal of the cab ceiling. I was going to use the same insulation used in suspended ceilings~ the lightweight panel cut to my ceiling size, but it was too thick. For me, I was just looking for the path of least resistance~ just buy the "factory" replacement headliner and be done with it.

Re: My '59 Apache

As I understand it, these trucks had NO insulation from the hot metal roof other than the original thick rubber pad that served as a "headliner".

I've debated whether there's even a need for insulation, but IF I do use some will the thick original headline stay stuck up there? I don't have one in my truck so I don't know how heavy a stock one is but it SEEMS like they'd be heavy enough to rip this bubble wrap stuff over time.

Thoughts from anyone who has the stock pad?

Dan, I don't know if it's the color of my truck, but on a sunny day, that roof of mine will definitely fry an egg! It was a no brainer for me that something had to go above my headliner. If the roof was to be white, maybe you could get away with no headliner. Maybe that's why most cars/trucks roofs were painted white?

Re: My '59 Apache

While waiting for parts, I took some time to clean up my daily driver~ an '11 Mazda Cx9. It's really easy to neglect the more important vehicle sometimes/much of the time. I've been working on it since 8:30, it's 1:30 and still not done! I want to wax it, but it's just a little too warm right now; maybe this evening i'll get after it. We had bought some rent homes and they've been taking up a great deal of time; painting, detailing, fixing stuff etc., an amazing amount of work, so the CX9 has been acting as a truck hauling stuff to and fro
