Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

Is that a fuel port on the left rear fender or a reflection? I'm about sold on this color as much as I hate being a copycat.

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

Thank's Duane,Ryan and Ray!!!
Hands down my Favorite color!!!

Ray, Yes it is a fuel door opening it is a weld in unit from Hagen, they have several styles to suit your needs..
Funny thing about the color, Dad had a few guys by the shop last night for the weekly hangout session and Everybody has reacted the same way and one of them is going to use the color on his son's vehicle for the 2 tone.

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

So finally on to putting her back together...

Pic #1. After getting the motor all cleaned up and put back in I worked on getting the exhaust welded up just under the cab so I could get the cab bolted back down. (here it just goes to show how valuable these chain hoist's are!!)

Pic #2. Lift cab, roll chassis in place, set cab down!!!

Pic #3. And finally starting to look like a Truck again...ish!!

Looks really good Mark! Can you show how you protect the paint during assembly / installation of the hood, doors and fenders?

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

As far as putting the doors on I have a block I use (I think Marc used them for holding up his Suburban body) and a jack. I first start putting the block on the jack and then put a soft towel on the block to protect the door bottom. Set the door on the block (2x4's stacked to make a square) And simply jack up the door into position and bolt it on.

Pic #1. When I mounted the fenders I used a members suggestion of bolting the inner fender to the outer fender first then bolt it all on the truck. As you can see in the pic I use tape along all the edges to protect the paint. (I found out the hard way that 67 & 68 models take a thin rubber pad for the core support) Verses the large donut the other models use. This mistake caused me all sorts of misalignment issues on the passenger side, once figured out it went together pretty easy.

Pic #2. Shows the door gap and body line look pretty good.

Pic #3. Both fenders on and left loose for now till I tackle the hood..

Best suggestion I can give is use A LOT of tape to protect thing's!!

Pic #1. Got the hood set on and ready to start the fitting process.

Pic #2. Dad had his monthly car night and I had our friend who owns a Body shop help me get the front end aligned.

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

I got a new Gauge cluster in, and will end up making my own panel to go over the top of the stock unit. (used a new one because it has chrome around the outside) The new Speedhut gauges are 3 3/8 and are way to small for the stock opening.

Pic #2. The new panel after it was layed out.

Pic #3. In this shot it shows the material that will need to be removed to allow the gauges to be installed.

Pic #4. After the trimming was done and all cleaned up and new gauges set in place.

Pic #5 . The finished product. The panel was sprayed with wrinkle black to match the O.E look.
the blinker and high beam indicators and switches installed as well.
