Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

i haven't been on in a while. trucks running well minis throwing a belt a few weeks ago. ive started doing little things like chasing rattles and have started doing a little body work. nothing major just filling some low spots and spraying some nicer primer to clean up its appearance. hope everyone has a happy halloween. its getting cold here and i already hate it.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I have been down with a back problem for a week and a half but today decided to get some light work done. I got the proper ARP carb studs installed today on the 6-71and went through and straightened out the nightmare linkage adjustments. Most things are stainless fasteners in aluminum brackets on steel rods so I anti-seized everything. These were the worst instructions I have ever seen. It must be one of those things where if you buy it they figure you know how to put it together. I also got the proper mounting bolts for 4-71 "the other woman".

Installed lowering coils and 2" drop spindles. Kicking myself in the a** now, should have installed 3" spindles.

Looks good. Give the Coils some drive time to get their "set" and it may drop some more.

It looks great! However I concur with dsraven: coils take a surprisingly long time to completely settle. Don't do anything crazy (like cut coils!) until it's got a few hundred miles on it. Heck, my truck's been on the road two years and it's still settling - 3/4" so far!

I can not believe yours settled that much. Well that gives me hope! Guess I'll give it some time before I do anything else with it.
Thanks

Just to clarify: that's 3/4" (three-fourths inch), not 3-4" (three-to-four inches), haha!

I started my truck today. That's about all I can do now with the local roads slathered in de-icer.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I have been out of state making some truck money but I came home for a day to pick up my brake caliper brackets from being welded and x-rayed. Everything seems to fit fine with no shims. The end of a 3 year saga. Time for some aerodynamic polishing to reduce drag an unmeasurable amount.

Changed wheels (new shoes) and tires. Went to a 17x8 wheel all around (from 16x8 Chrome smoothies).

Those wheels and the stance suit that truck nicely!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I got 1 caliper bracket finished today. I figure about 10 hours total. One to go. It's unimaginable the reduction in the drag coefficient of these brackets once polished. Some would say it's an unmeasurable amount. So there's that.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I finished the caliper brackets and mocked them up. I am amazed that with all the work done with one off spindles and brackets that not a single shim required.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

bosco, that looks great!
personally, from my "old guy" perspective, a 28" tall tire and 17" inch wheels is about right in my books. like equivalent to the old 235/75r15 for diameter but with a bit less sidewall. a 235/60r17 is what I plan to run and is what I have mocked up. not gonna overfill the wheel openings, not super wide, all 4 corners will be the same. just my opinion though. your truck looks awesome. love the color too. what tire size did you go with?

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I started prepping my trans for paint. I don't want to paint the bolts so I made little spacers for them. It's nice to have a lathe and just spin stuff like this out. It was painful to buy but I have no buyers remorse.
