Morning Bill,

That sounds really bad man.

My. Dad taught us to use a sharp knife to scrape the stingers off, because if you tried to grab the poison pouch left behind, you automatically injected more venom.

Bastards for sure.

I am still laughing, despite the pain nd itch.

My lymph nodes under my left armpit are so swollen I can fill my hand.

Need to get the shed door closed and then plot my revenge.

It may have to be done under cover of darkness, and using some unpleasant chemical agent.

As the log is on the ground, and against the shed, under the bush.

Entrance approximately where the arrow shows. A bit more to the left and lower though.

Not spending £60.00 for a pest service may still led to regrets and a second casualty visit.

I feel for you Rian. My Dad is severely allergic to Yellow Wasps. He is very diligent to be aware of those things around the farm.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks Buddy,

Funny how the toxin poisons you, and your body’s reaction is what makes you feel bad.

So I was too knackered, and actually uncomfortable at 11.00pm last night to go get dressed in triple layers in order to cut back the bush where the nest entrance is, approximately.

So today I decided to do a modern warfare version of wasp control/extermination in stead.

I used faithful old Ducktape and a 5 meter off cut of decking from last year, and then tossed the whole bottle around about where I think the entrance log was.

Let’s hope is works.

Mate Kevin also offered me some 3 ,meter wasp foam spray, which may become plan B if I missed the entrance and resultant kill altogether.

Here’s to peace in the garden.

Or you could wait until dark and walk right up and do your business, that way you'll get most all of them.

The problem with the dark is thats when they rest, so less chance of getting stung, or seeing what I am doing.

Been told be a bee guy that the ideal is to poison them in daytime so the workers maximise getting poison into the hive.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Anyone remember the guy (Robert) taking a London Taxi chassis from the scrapyard to build a twin motored car?

LINK: https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread...rd-engineering

Well, that is done....... Pics below.

However, he has picked up and started on this LINK: https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread/215234/temptress

Should be good too.

Just a few pics to show what he ended up building on the London Cab chassis.

Other side.

Hand spun trumpets.

Currently working on a small, lightweight bikini type roof for when it really gets wet.

Not bad for a home build, using whatever was laying around.

New build should be very interesting.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Dam-iiiiiit.
When I was a kid I used to spray the wasp nests in our palm trees with a hose and swipe them out of the air when they attacked. They got me a few times over that summer. I never blew up like that - wow.
We had a tree trim guy come buy once and trim the palms. He was stung many times that day and said he was used to it. Eeek
They definitely get your attention.
At my place in Texas I wait until night to use wasp spray, they're docile and you get em all at once.

That looks a little sore! I think you need to medicate it from the inside out. Try a big Ice Cold Rum and Coke see if that don't help.

Yup.

I never reacted that bad.

And it’s gotten bigger.

Ice pack helps a bit, but not much.

Thanks Ray,

Yes it is actually sore.

But that is life, I need a nurse like Eve to sort the swelling and pain.

So last night I got stung, and they won.

Certainly the the last laugh

Buggers

So on inspection this morning after an uneventful Bootfair, one could see the entrance and loads of wasps around.

Probably 10 in front, darting in and out constantly.

So I waited till about 11.30 to go build a new weapon.

The Reaper Stick.

Can of wasp spray and Ducktape on a stick.

Setting off the poison was a challenge, to get the Ducktape to depress and keep down, the button.

And then in there, I also manipulated it for a bit, to get the most to spread around a bit.

Will go back and inspect tomorrow, and if not traffic, then it will be time to dig it all up.

Maybe get back into the shed.

Report later, after food.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So after the stick of doom visited the nest twice yesterday, there were a few stragglers left today.

I would say they had won.

This morning after my shower, it was obvious I need to be careful as my body does not like this poison.

Chatting to Mickey over the fence, he said he had a solution, and less than 5 minutes later, he was there.

Can of Asda (Walmart) wasp killer in hand.

I was still trying to warn him when he was straight in.......

After a few minutes, and a pair of gloves.

And ripping the log out and tossing it on the lawn.

Incredible how neatly they have hollowed out that log.

And contents of the poison, I went back to ASDA to see if there was any in stock, nope.

Maybe banned?

As the wasps just fall out of the air when you spray.

Tomorrow I will inspect again, and if no more wasps, I will clear up there cut back the shrubs a bit.

Fun times. My cousins and I would sit at the back door of our grandfather's house doing the same thing when were kids. Got to a point wear paper targets was not enough, so cans, toy army men, even the pecans still in the trees became the targets...

I can point in the general direction as seen.

But that level where individual pecans fall one shot at a time, reserved for the real hunters.

My uncle could shoot a .22 rifle and hit running hares, rabbits, rats while driving in his ploughed fields with his truck.

A true dead eye shot.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Here are a couple of options for you:

https://www.quickjack.com/

https://www.maxjax.com/maxjax-right-for-you/

Possible drawback for you on the maxjax is that it should be bolted down when in use. Your paving stones would not allow that to be done...

For doing things like brakes and suspension work, the quickjack might be a good option. There are others on the market, but I knew about these two.

I like this a lot too.

Being able to move, or store them flat is important.

More here https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread...regular-garage

I like the idea of using an old forklift truck mechanism modified too.

I like the quick jack option, but it seems like it would be in the way more than standard jack stands. I am not that old yet, so the old fashion way is still my choice. (I am sticking with that last statement regardless of what my body says) Also, getting the checkbook open is tuff, even if I wasn't married to an accountant, I am CHEAP.

Not sire what route to go yet.

The current build has shown me that I can change stuff, so maybe something submerged slightly to get a fairly level floor could be an option.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

We do like a BBQ

@Totti knows.....

Ordered 30kg of BBQ Briquettes from Germany

Let’s hope the reviews are accurate.

Over the weekend, Sally asked me to help her do a sign for a work friend and colleague who had a double mastectomy.

So I agreed.

Ended up doing three, for two of her friends and her colleague

Starting wit a rough sign, then a background painted on.

Resulting in

The other with added detail....

Result

And 5 hrs later, seriously.

The next big job was to wrap up the carport and driveway posts that had to be redone.

Greg, the lodger, who left today helped after Andy moved out, he also taught me a whole lot about welding.

He finished off the plates for me too.

DONE.

Galvazinc after finishing off.

Spoke to the steel guy today, he should be here to do the steel work in two weeks.

Price was a nice surprise.

Nice find on the mower stuff. On your cab dolly, make sure you use some large capacity and diameter wheels. Mine had smaller diameter wheels at first and with the weight of the cab on it, it didn't wheel around very well

Great advice Bill.

The wheels I have a re bigger than yours, and I would have tried to use them.

The ones Martin took off the trolley before giving it to me have a wider set of mounting points, so I may modify the mounts, or look out for a set of even larger Wheels with appropriate mounting points.

Regardless, I think that the ones I have will work, even on my paved driveway

Could be used as part of your car.

OR

Use it as the drop down door for your booze cabinet next to your outdoor BBQ area.

Collection only please.

PM gives you first dibs.

After the “ failed “ Bootfair, Sally and I climbed into the garden and cleared beds, moved my Ogre to a new open space as he had disappeared into the growth over time. I carried him to the 4 foot wall, Sally and I tried to get him on the plinth, but she is a girl, so I called my favourite 76 year old neighbour over to just help me safely get it up. Easy.

Had him about 15 years.

Loads of other jobs, including pruning, clearing and also doing a final number on the subterranean part of the wasp nest, finally covering it with soil.

Seems I now own a shed again. And @Glenanderson has a spares mower.

Great work on the truck body lift. I built one for my build previously. Although I have since used the wood elsewhere.
