Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I had that happen on a '64 Impala. The oil light came on when slowing down an off ramp. Tapped the pan with a hammer, and it clunked back. Put another quart of oil in it to keep the oil pump gozinta covered with oil and nursed it to my parent's house to pull the engine. One of the neighbors was a machinist and he knurled the part of the screen assembly that presses into the pump. It was a new pump and the old screen that was on the engine prior to rebuilding.

Easiest way is to drive it back in then put a tack weld on it so it will never do that again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I bought a set of headlight bezels for $20.
I had been thinking of adding a little black around the bulbs but wasn't sure I'd like it, so I figured I'd sacrifice the new purchase. All in the name of science, they were in OK condition but certainly not mint.
So a little time prepping on a rainy day and some low gloss black my curiosity is somewhat satisfied.
I'm glad I tried it on a second pair. My original ones are in pretty good shape.
I'm not sure I like the results.

Well maybe on the later models with the Black paint in some style areas on the chrome, it might not look out of place, but my
'71 Jimmy has an all-chrome grille, and I like it.
Black on the bezels might diminish the amount of light going forward. I like to light it up.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Did some more work on the 350 . Innards are nice and clean I am going to do the valve guide seals . Whoever did this motor did some nice work like the stud for the distributor and the punch marks for it . Didn’t like the silicone mess to seal the intake nothing wrong with using it but at least smooth it out .

Replaced the alternator and re-did the shattered connector plug. While I was at it, I saw that the fuel pump was squirting gas from the weep holes in the top of the mechanical pump. So, got a new pump and will be doing that next.

Smell your oil for fuel. When the diaphragm goes, the pump can leak fuel into the oil.

Good to know. It is time for an oil change anyway, so will take care of that after I replace the pump. Thanks!
