Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Cleaned up and hit a couple cars and coffee and cruise ins, while Fall and winter is when half of you put your trucks away its the best time to get out here in NC.
I do have a couple projects ready to start in the garage, new cowl hood I need to paint with billet hinges and a freshly built stage 2 2004R 4 speed trans to replace my TH350. Before next summer I need to order and install a Vintage Air, having no AC this summer and no heat for this winter is getting old.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Replaced the alternator and re-did the shattered connector plug. While I was at it, I saw that the fuel pump was squirting gas from the weep holes in the top of the mechanical pump. So, got a new pump and will be doing that next.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Smell your oil for fuel. When the diaphragm goes, the pump can leak fuel into the oil.

Good to know. It is time for an oil change anyway, so will take care of that after I replace the pump. Thanks!

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Finally...some time on Old Blue...
truck has sat idle for a few years now while I worked on other projects, mostly for other folk... Purchased this 1967 LWB 2WD V8 about four years ago...put it on the shop, ripped off the bed and doors and seat to clear out mice nests...and there it sat...until today. Checked the oil and coolant... Bypassed the ignition circuit and starter circuit by removing firewall plug... Pulled carb and cleaned out the junk...no gasket set available so I reused the old ones... Added a temporary fuel supply system and primed the carb....(original 2GC ) Turned her over a bit to get some oil circulating.... Connected power to Ign circuit and away she went !..... No smoke No blowby Let her warm up for about 15 minutes...darned thing sits there and idles ! Some times it nice to work on something just for yourself... Pics coming later... Nearly time for football!!!!

Put a NOS door latch from Riverside Truck and Auto Parts in Milliken, CO. I enjoyed talking to John and his assistant there while my part was being retrieved for me. Now my door opens and closes properly.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Just worked on my new 68. Truck has been sitting a long time. It would start and then starve for gas after a couple of minutes. Let the pictures do the talking. Shame is the owner put a new tank in 2013 and it's full of rust.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Today I replaced a broken rocker arm stud. I first attempted the job with the head still installed, but ended up pulling the head off yesterday. I first tried cutting new threads and using stacked washers to pull it out, but the threads gave out before it started moving. While still in the truck, I then tried welding a stud on top of the broken one to use for pulling it, but wasn’t able to get a good weld, mainly because of the location and my inexperience with welding. Welding in an assembled motor is scary, so I pulled the head, removed all the valves, and then was able to get a good enough weld to pull the broken stud. I tapped the hole, threaded in a new stud, reinstalled all the valves, and will start putting the motor back together tomorrow.
This is the second stud that broke after installing a mild lift cam (.454/.454) last year, and based on the location of the break on both, which was just at the base of the threads, it looks like the slots in the stock rocker arms were not long enough causing this issue. I now have new rocker arms with longer slots and should know if I solved the issue soon. Pictures are the first stud that brok and the second one I pulled today.
