Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Started my new engine for the first time today!
Got a squeling belt, not sure if it's actually the alt or the water pump. It's lined up real good, but squels real bad and alt pulley gets very hot! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Moved it from one side of the yard to the other so I could run the sprinkler, then thought real hard about installing my new headers.. But I already know they aren't going to fit so the question I'm asking my self is send em back and try to find the near impossible to find headers, or modify my clutch linkage to use the more common headers

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Modify both headers and clutck linkage if you have too, then make it come to life.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got my truck on the road. But it doesn't sound right so I might have to do park it again haha. Seems like the carb needs tuning and possibly fuel supply problems. And after a complete bleeding of the brakes, they still go from stiff to soft and back to stiff. Maybe a leak?

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Any tips on modifying the linkage? I have the clutch ball that's mounted on the engine block now (between #5-#7 exhaust port) and that's right where the header tube is.. The headers I have on it now are leaking bad and are going to get replaced.. I might tear the old ones off tomorrow and take the linkage off to see what I've gotta do to make it all work.. Fabrication on linkage should be manageable

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
It's not what you know it's who you know and they came to my house and installed the glass. I already had the windshield gasket, which fit perfectly (thank you Brother's Truck Parts). I was originally quoted $128, I was surprised when the tech said $95, I am sure it was because I had the gasket or the tech was trying to pick me up.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got the passenger side header on, broke the battery feed off the starter in the process.. And I'm not real sure about the thermal coating on theese headers, it seems like it is already coming off just from me installing em.. I left it in the bag while putting it between the block and frame to keep from scratching it.. But it's like the coating is rubbing off.. Has anyone watching this thread done a hydraulic clutch set up on their 4 speed?? I've been considering it but don't know enough about it. I've searched a little on it but cant find somewhere someone has said get this pt# and this part # and put it together.. I just don't want to hav to piece it together 13 times to get everything right. I'll get a picture tomorrow of progress when it's light out..

took the seats and gas tank out today. drained the tank and just as we expected it was nasty nasty nasty! found the fuel level sender stuck in place and missing the float as well. that might explain why the gauge didnt move!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
After going to the Brother's truck show I put the newly painted cross-sills back in the bed, swapped the rear springs trying to get rid of a bit of a lean, installed the rear shocks and got my exterior and interior mirrors put on. The right side mirror won't adjust so you can use it to see behind you (thank you Brother's Truck Parts).

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Belt could be a little loose but also the alt may be pulling real hard trying to charge the low battery. Tighten the belt a bit and charge the battery. My 2 cents worth.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
The punch list got a little shorter today:
Sun visors on, driver's bucket "electrified" (I'm going with the leather buckets) , slug for the rear view mirror glued to the glass, steering wheel is on and horn 1/2 way "plumbed", took measurements for the seat bolt-down. New door handles are on. If anyone knows what seat belts will work with these seats, that'd be a good tip for me. I bought these several years ago and many brain cells ago...I am pretty sure the seats are GM. I found an inspection sticker under the driver's seat that says "2004". Rear roll pan is welded in. And Butch, the body man par excellance is molding in the seams. Oh, Butch stopped the brake line leak and is going to put a shifter shaft seal in the TH350 tomorrow....next leak to attack, bottom radiator hose . One day closer....

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got the wireing to the starter finished. Turned the motor over for the first time on it's own. A good feeling after a very long three year wate. Very close to the first fire of the motor.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Wow ~
You alls are so busy ! . I just installed my factory dual horns , good thing I bought a boxful at the junkyard as some were dead . Interestingly , my '69 Stepper base model truck doesn't have the same dual horn captive nuts all the DeLuxe trucks I see , do . It toots *much* nicer now . I also added the last of the factory power brake to firewall support brackets I had in my box 'o parts .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
My steering wheel and rear sway bar were waiting for me when I got home from work today. I started putin' the wheel on at about 6:30 and had the sway bar finished by 8:30. The sway bar went on great, I bought a Hotchkis blade type bar, really an easy installation. The wheel went on real easy too (after a little soldiering). I wanted a plain horn button but this what they (Summit) could supply.

ItsRandy, nice! That is the steering wheel that I want to put on mine. Did you buy it at Summit or LMC? How hard was the install?

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Bad day today.
I had help, which was a GOOD thing. But when we filled up the coolant? At first, a happy day. The reconfiguring and re-cinching of the lower radiator hose worked!!!! Then coolant started pouring all over the place. Out of the freeze plug just under the motor mount on the driver's side. Drats!!!! Well, while that drained, we put in the TH350 shifter shaft seal with the special tool that came in the mail today. Then, we were ready to put in the trans pan drain-plug. The guy that helped connect the tranny to the motor stripped the new shiny aluminum pan plug threads. Never said a word. So, instead of pulling the motor, we (I SHOULD SAY, "Butch"), removed the motor mount, the motor mount bracket, and then the rotten plug. Napa Auto Parts had the ticket...a 1-5/8" rubber and steel dry-install plug for the block, and a one-oversize tranny drain bolt/plug. $9.50 for the freeze plug and drain plug, $40 for 2 more gallons of Prestone and some extra little stuff, another hour of Butch's time. Next saga tomorrow. Maybe fire it up if the fresh oil we'll put in doesn't spew all over. And if the trans fluid stays in. And if the coolant doesn't find another hole. And if........ Lessons? Note One to self: "When sealing up the motor on the stand, replace all the freeze plugs". Note Two to self: "When installing a trans pan plug, don't have someone tighten it that won't be around when the trans gets filled...Do it myself".
