Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
As you may recall, I had some oil pressure sender issues with the Dolphin gauge in my panel truck, and Dolphin advised me to remove sealant from the threads so the sender could get a good ground. Nonetheless, just to reassure myself, today I verified my oil pressure with a manual tester: 28 lbs at idle, 50 lbs at 2500 rpm. So everything is just right.

Good idea. There's an unused port right there. Do you have a picture?

I'm old school; I take the picture, save it to my computer and then pull up the picture from an existing file to this forum.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Finally finished polishing the lower thermostat housing. This little thing kicked my butt. I'm going to estimate it at 20 hours. It took twice as long as my bellhousing. It looks nicer than the photo. I don't know why polished parts photograph so poorly up close. I'm calling it a win.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
All of those little details work your tail feathers or fingers off.
I did the move all my stuff in the outer yard and mow and then put it all back in different places thing today. For those who drive up US 97 between Goldendale and Toppenish you will probably notice that the furniture has been moved around and you can maybe see more sailboat butt sticking out. There was a method to my madness as I drug the tear drop trailer frame that my frame for my 48 sits on out so I can get started on it as soon as I get the pop back though the carb thing fixed on the dualie.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
My AN fittings came for my thermostat housing and I had to clearance part of the housing to get it in. And a little bit more polishing. I spent most of the day trying to make space for a new 12" X 36" lathe I ordered.

Swapped out the 64 2bbl carb and intake. For a "vintage" 3CBS edelbrock and 4bbl carb.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I final mounted my rear brake disk on the hub. They only have a torque setting of 155 inch/pounds with red loctite. I chased all the threads on the bolts and holes first to avoid the rundown screwing my torque settings up. The tape is so I don't lose my place and forget any. It is not going to be fun getting the safety wire on the bolts down around the e-brake drum. I guess I have never had any fun with safety wire.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I put the safety wire on my rear brake disks. I put the tape on so I didn't put one on backwards and have to do it over. Not that I have ever done that, as far as anyone knows. They took 20 to 30 minutes a piece. I think I had as much fun as you can have with safety wire.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Well, I lost 3rd gear in the 700R4, the outfit I bought it from won't stand behind the 2 year unlimited mileage warranty, XP Performance out of Spokane, WA.
So Monday after I get off work, I'll find out how much this is going to cost me... oh well what's another $1500 down the toilet... I'm now stepping down of my soap box, my rant is done! |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
While installing my exhaust turndowns I noticed that my frame had been touching the rear shock absorbers when driving. The problem is my shocks are heavy-duty, over 2-1/2" diameter. So today I cut the dust covers off them, now giving them almost an inch of clearance.

Removed one front spring and started the install of the Western Chassis drop spring.
2020 has not been off to a good start for getting truck projects done.
