Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom

Ok guys, I need some help here. I recently found out when I looked up my 1:6 rocker arms, somehow I chose some for a small block ford. Now I have heard of ford guys using Chevy rockers but never heard of it vice versa. They seemed fine when I installed them but I am not 100% sure what problems it may cause. Any suggestions / ideas?

I could only suggest, talk to Edelbrock about it, talk to the rocker company and ask how they are different.

What comes to mind is make sure the rocker tips are centered on the valve stems, and the push rods don't contact the heads. Could the push rods from chevy and ford have a different radius on the ends? in other words if the end of the push rod was larger or smaller than the cup on the rocker it could wear badly.

I did just that, contacted Edelbrock first. They were amazed that they even bolted up, and they said pretty much the same thing; if they center up on the valve and the push rod isn't making contact with the head I should be good. So I contacted Summit next and they said they wouldn't recommend taking the risk. So they told me to package them up best I could and return them for an exchange! I had even told them they were installed! I have to give it to Summit, they are awesome when it comes to taking care of their customers! I removed them last night, luckily I still have all of the packaging that they came in. However, Edelbrock does not make a 1:6 rocker for a Chevy so I will be replacing them with a set of Lunati arms. Such a load off of my mind! I could only imagine what would have happened had I not accidentally looked at the box those arms came in, I really need to be more careful in the future. What makes this so shameful for me is I work in a parts department! Looking up parts is my profession, I should have caught that before I ordered them.

The Atomic EFI should be here Monday and the replacement rockers on Tuesday.
Now I am facing a decision; If I have th TB powder coated, only the side plate and the fuel rails can be coated, the body itself will have to be painted. Now the design will be like the rest of the engine, black with the MSD and raised lines in blue. The only blue on it will be on the side plate and fuel rails though. My concern is if I pant the body and coat the other parts, is the black from the body to the other parts being off color from each other. The other problem, my powder coater I have does such a fantastic job but isn't the fastest. I really want to have this engine cranked within the next month or so and I can't do that if the powder coater has my fuel rails. I figure if I am going to have him do it, I will have to give him a time limit to have it done. Then hope he sticks to it, lol

Well, bad news. There will be no powder coating on the throttle body. Turns out the plate on the side has the ECM attached to it. Spray painting it would be next to impossible with all the sensors and wiring in the way. Hand painting it would be the only option and I do not think that would look very good. So for now it will just have to stay the way it is. I did get my new rockers today and started to install them. Getting back on track now. Next up is the dampener and a few miscellaneous parts.

Well, guess they didn't offer the unit in black then.

Ya know what once you start the engine you'll forget about the color.

Mind taking a couple close pics of your upper shock mounts in front? And I was surprised that you didn't have to notch the frame for the steering rack, thought it needed a little. Nice, that's a good thing.

Ya, I wish they would have offered it in black. That would have been nice. I have a feeling it won't be too noticeable once it is all said and done. I found out the other day there is a new brand of injection available for half the price of the MSD. It is called FiTech and comes in black. Wish I would have known about that a few weeks ago.

I will take some pictures of them in the morning for ya. They are nice, I like them a lot. I still am not sure they were worth that much money though, lol. I probably wold not have installed that kit if I had to notch the frame any more than I did. All in all I am really happy with that rack kit though. No Limit was definitely the way to go.

My best guess is it being the speed for 2/4 high and 4 low
It has become the subject of some debate on Facebook
The brilliant people on there keep insisting that it is for kph and I keep pointing out that that math don't add up, lol

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom

I don't know what it is, but speed is speed, regardless of what gear or 2/4 high vs 4 low. If something is moving at 50 MPH in 2H, it will still be 50MPH at 4H. I'd never try to get that fast in 4L though, but if I did, it would still be 50 MPH.

You're right about KmPH to MPH being different. 120 KmPH = 75 MPH.

My guess is it's an aftermarket speedometer put behind the factory lens.

Edit: Got it.... It's out of a '63 Studebaker Lark, according to this ebay ad
Or from Motor Trend, a 1962 Studebaker Lark Wagonaire Daytona speedometer

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom

I am less than a week away from cranking the motor for the first time! Ordered the last couple of parts needed today.

I am kinda getting the itch for a air ride/drop suspension. Just not sure how well that would work with the Hotchkis suspension I already have. I was looking at the Air Ride bolt on 4-link rear setup; if I left out the replacement cross member it looks like it would still work with my rear arm brackets. And it shows an available rear sway bar that looks just like the one I have on there. My rear suspension cross arms definitely won't work though. At least, not without some fairly substantial fab work. Then there would be the front, which (I think) should just be a matter of figuring out if the air bags would clear the upper control arms without rubbing. Thoughts?
