I finished up the side trim but it was dark by the time I finished so you get a night picture...

I have a P0102 error code showing up (Mass or Volume Air flow "A" Circuit Low). I didn't have an air filter on it so I figured that was probably the culprit. I had an old K&N filter that was on the truck I pulled the engine and trans from so I stuck it on there. Reset the code and tried it again. Error code came back so now I'm not sure. I need to get a new filter of some kind for it. I also sprayed some cleaner on the TB screen before I put the filter on it. Runs good, I put about 20 miles on it today to go get lunch.

Kids are coming over tomorrow so all I will be doing is giving rides in it....

The truck got a good workout today giving everyone rides. When I started the truck this morning the Check Engine light did not come on. Woo Hoo!...

Sandblasted and coated the tail light and reverse light housings yesterday. After I sandblast them I coat them inside and out with Rustoleum Cold Galvanizing Compound. It has good reflective qualities and is a good rust preventive. Sorry about the crappy pictures, I forgot I had the flash on. Got those installed.

I didn't have the wire loom installed from the firewall to the rear cross member so I went ahead and did that next and tested it at the back plugin. Everything tested out OK except for the reverse lights.. I'm not worried about those right now. Installed the bulbs and lenses and plugged the connector in at the cross member and everything worked (except those darn reverse lights)...... Surprise!......

I removed the upper grille hoop the other day so I could paint the top part of the grille where I scuffed it up working on stuff. I taped that off, used scotch brite on it and painted it this afternoon. After it dried I put the grille hoop and Bowtie back on.

I had enough daylight left so I installed the hood letters and put the bumper back on.

I have a fuel line that needs secured away from the exhaust and a couple of other little things and I can start driving it.

I buy it in the spray can at my local tractor supply store (Theisens if you have one) I would think Menards or Lowes would have it too. Maybe in the stovepipe or paint areas.

On the P0102, this is the most likely issue.

Note: The use of a reusable oiled air filter could be a cause of this code, if it is over-oiled. Oil can transfer to the fine wire or film inside the MAF sensor and contaminate it. Use only MAF cleaner spray to clean the MAF in such situations. We do not recommend the use of oiled air filters.

I read some info on the K&N filters and how to use them correctly when I put one on my '67 Panel with the LS1 in it. I will have to check to see what else is available to replace the K&N. The used one I put on this truck is really old and beat up. I used the air hose on it to blow it out good but I don't think there is any oil left on it.

I have a cheap HF scanner but it does do live. I have never used that part of it but I will try it if the light comes back on. I also have HPTuners but I have never used the live data scanner on it either. I would probably have to do a lot of reading on how to use the HPTuners for that....

The wife helped me cut the wood to the correct widths the other day and I was finally able to run the bed wood through the router table this morning to finish it up. I'm glad that part is done. I will get a couple of coats of Danish Oil Finish on it tomorrow and maybe I can start installing it Saturday if it isn't raining. (first picture)

Since I didn't measure the height of the front springs when I did the C30 disk brake/spindle swap I decided to pull the drivers side back apart and measure it. It measures 13 tall. I dug out the extra springs I had that I thought were 1 ton and measured them and they measure 13 1/2" tall. That isn't going to help me much but I think I will go ahead and install them.

I clean all of that kind of stuff in vinegar and it really eats the rust off of them. The third picture shows the springs in the vinegar bath. Since my tub isn't deep enough to completely immerse them I have to rotate them after about a day to let it work on the other side. The fourth picture shows the springs after I removed them from the vinegar bath. They actually look worse than they did before I put them in but the secret is to pressure wash them after you remove them from the vinegar. The fifth picture is after pressure washing them. That really makes a difference. If a person didn't think they were clean enough you could always put them back in the vinegar bath for a little longer and pressure wash them again. I always blow them dry with the air hose and prime them right away or they will flash rust pretty quick.

Finally got the first coat of Danish Oil Finish on the bed wood. This power pole was Pine instead of Cedar like the last one I used, so it has more knots in it. I have a few knots that fell out so I need to glue them back in. I will put a second coat of oil on it tomorrow morning. I also need to paint my bed strips tomorrow. Don't forget this is a "Low Budget", "Low Maintenance" work truck not a show truck.....

Tip: If you have any plastic fuel filters that you no longer use don't throw them away. They make good small funnels. Just cut the filter end off of them and you have a funnel, with either a 5/16" or 3/8" tip.

I re-assembled the front end on the truck this afternoon and went for a drive, so not much else done. Weather has been really nice here for the last few days. I will work on the bed strips and wood tomorrow.....

Well here it is dark again when I finished up for the day. Rained a little this morning but cleared off nice this afternoon. I'm going to have to quit burning the midnight oil, it is getting the best of me....

Installing the bed wood is always stressful for me because it is not really a one man job. A lot of climbing in and out of the bed, crawling underneath the truck and back out. I feel like I am training for a marathon....

This is the width of the full length boards The rest of them will have to be short because of the widened wheel tubs.

They are calling for rain again tomorrow so I will have to wait and see how much and how long..

Bed wood is all fit but I don't have it all bolted down yet, just snugged up. I need to make sure the bed is square before I finish that up. It started sprinkling just as I set the last two boards in place so I had to get my tools picked up and put in the shop.

I need to get my wheel tubs finished now.

This is cool. Before seeing projects like this I considered work trucks and hot rods to be separate entities. Now you've got me considering how I can get away with building a combo unit. Keeping the exterior businesslike is key IMO. That truck will be capable of carrying lots of locks ; )

I know that it's work-ready and all that but the wood-n-strips in the bed look sharp.

Thanks. It sure would haul lots of locks, and get them there pretty quick too.... ... I plan on using it to pull my 20ft tilt bed trailer and general hauling. I still need to find a good frame mounted hitch to put on it.
