Yup, that's a ton of blasting, but it look like you were thorough. What are ya gonna spray on all this nice parts?

Re: 72 K30 Build
That is a cheep way to blast using silica sand. I did not want to use silica do to the hazards of silica dust warnings we get at work these days. I used iron oxide for blasting. In 10 years we will hear about how bad iron oxide is.

Yeah buddy, I'm pretty proud of those nutz!
Here’s how they look after some repair. Same as yesterday first 3 pics are all one seat (frame on top) last one is the 2nd seat.

Re: 72 K30 Build
So thought we were done sand blasting but decided to blast the core support instead of waiting to send it out with the rest of sheet metal. Would be nice to mount a radiator and battery for breaking in a new or used motor in the chassis. Thinking we can fix any leaks without the sheet metal being in the way.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Hey Jim! Yep this old RV cab has been a sweetheart other than the little hole in the back of the cab! It's the complete opposite of our ½ ton project that took almost every patch you can buy.
Blasted the bucket seat repair areas again and glad we did. I’m guessing the one taking all the repair was the passenger seat blazer frame found it does have a crack on the other side as well kind of hard to see in the pic but there. No biggie all welded up and moving on to some paint.

Re: 72 K30 Build
So here’s the temporary paint booth setup. We’d setup a 10’x10’ enclosure (2x4s & visqueen) from an earlier project that adapted to the lift really easily. Mounted a pipe to the lift ceiling (or floor?) to suspend the lighter parts from, got a couple of the cheap HF purple guns, cheapo fan from Lowe’s this sure isn’t a high dollar operation!

Re: 72 K30 Build
Thanks Ryan me too!
Best part of this deal is we just beat the cold weather. It’s been in the 40’s outside but with both ceiling fans on high and the heater going we’re in the 60’s. Overspray is going where we wanted and haven’t even needed to drop the front plastic yet. With the fans going all the building air is helping to push it out our exhaust fan. Trying to spray in the back of the booth as much as possible I’m sure is helping also. Pleased with the seat frames, we ordered new foam from forum member Truckseats back when he had a spiff running just need to get some covers ordered I'm guessing.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Thanks guys!
That might just happen Rick, all my upholstery connections have dried up. Another factor is I'm kind of on the fence about which interior to use. We have a recovered red bucket set with original foam slated for our C10 project that was going to be black w/red interior (I love & hate black exteriors)? Here's some pics of our red buckets in the C10 from earlier last year. This restored set we are working on is probably going to be a black houndstooth to match a complete black interior we have or? This set could open up other color choices for the C10? Or look great in the K30 which is going to be white, w/red or black interior.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Mrs. 7dee2 says we are sticking with the plan! She’s not a fan of white w/red so white w/black using black hounds tooth covers it is.
I like this paint so far; it sprays well dry’s quick and looks really close to OEM, Sahweet! We’re using more paint than I thought we would probably due to the multiple coats so I’m glad there’s plenty.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Thanks Jim the paint is called Zero Rust here is a link http://zero-rust.com/index.php & http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=428 from what I understand its ingredients are very, very similar to rustoleums formula.
Painted parts stack is growing, the core support is about to get another coat with plenty of extra paint on the front side, last pic is some more finished pieces.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Used a little (very little) filler in some places to remove any remaining sign of grind marks left on the outer parts of the rails. I know I’m fussing but the idea's to make it look like it came from GM this way.

Great work, those black parts look sweet! Nothing wrong with smoothing the grind marks out. That'll just make it a better job done in the end!

Re: 72 K30 Build
Thanks guys I appreciate it.
Our little booth is full up with the rails in there! And all done, it took about 1.5 gallons and into a second spray can so far to get to this point.
