Re: My long term 57 project

Well guys I was finally able to get a complete set from a guy out of OK. Just need to polish it all up, clean up some rust and get it all on!!

It will be a few weeks before I can get it done, lots of work and taking the kids to Universal Studios in Orlando and a family wedding.

Can't wait to see it installed!!!!

Re: My long term 57 project

Getting started on the clean-up of the GMC grill pieces. Picked up 2 gallons of Evapo-Rust for Harbor Freight and let it sit for 24 hrs. It looks like it will eat all of the surface rust away and leave a nice clean surface for some silver Rustoleum!

Re: My long term 57 project

Slowly making progress on the GMC parts. Cleaned up the backside of a couple of the pieces and brushed on some aluminum Rustoleum, sprayed the hardware semi-flat black.

I made them using the hose and fittings that came with the VA kit, but I covered them with a braided sleeving and heat shrink on the ends.

Got the sleeving from here:

Re: My long term 57 project

Those bumpers turned out great!

I was watching a couple of 55's on craigslist up in Columbia for a couple weeks. One Chevy small window truck and big back window GMC with the chrome bumpers. Looks like they're gone now. They would have made a pretty nice truck.

Thanks, it took a lot of rubbing with "0000" steel wool and WD-40! Still need to put some polish on them and do the bumper.
