Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
I meant that the guy I bought them from said a 70-something dodge pickup. I think he said 72 but I don't remember.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Chris, these aren't the typical 5" aftermarket mirrors. They are stainless 6" convex mirrors. I have used the 5" round ones before and i think they are too small to be useful. I also hate the way the cheap aftermarket crap starts rusting so quickly. I couldn't find a 6" round with flat glass so I bought these. Turns out the convex are nice because there are no blind spots, but they take some getting used to refocusing your eyes. The real plan was to take these to a glass shop and see if they can replace the convex mirror with flat but I haven't gotten around to seeing if someone can do it. I also tried the rectangular ones. The viewing area was nice but they made an annoying whistling sound at higher speeds. Plus I think the round looks good.
I dont really remember having any vibration issues. I have noticed that the aftermarket mirror arms are thinner steel than the originals, thus they vibrate more. I also have stiff poly motor and trans mounts. I'll have to pay closer attention to check for vibration when im driving.

Chris,
Here is the view at 0 and at 65 mph. No major vibrations.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
I have the square aftermarket mirrors, and they are solid as a rock at speed.
Nor do they make any wind noises. I like the convex mirror idea.

They're nice because I have no blind spots.

I must have picked up some crappy ones. Jason, are your mirror arms aftermarket too? If so, where did you get them.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
I think I got them from Truck Shop. But its been a long time.
The ones I bought from Classic Industries seemed thinner and the flat bent part where the mirror head mounts isn't really bent at the correct angle. The mirrors can barely pivot far enough to get into the correct position.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Jason I see you went through the trouble of relocating your gas filler to the passenger side.LOL That's what it looked like from the picture taken through the mirror...I had those crazy factory SHAKER'S on my 70 Burb I couldn't see anything those things shaked all the time... those round covex, concave which ever they are do work very well as you said
no blind spots..I know a lot of people add those small ones like that to the bottom of their mirrors to correct that problem I think I need to add them to the wife's Nissan thye will save you from an accident.. I've been close a few times because of those blind spots...

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Jason when you put that big block in your truck did it bolt right to the v-8 crossmember or did it have to be modified..

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
I used the engine crossmember from a 67-72 K10 and a trans/transfer case crossmember from a 73 K20. I estimate that it is mounted about 2" further forward than a small block would be.
I know some people have been able to make it fit in the stock location, but I couldn't. You never know if the motor is sitting a little higher or lower depending on their engine crossmember, or more or less tilt depending on their trans crossmember. You'll just have to try to get it in there and see what works for you. Hope that helps...

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Chris, you've got mail!
Randy, I'very been busy paying off some bills and buying my first house. So no time spent on BU, just driving him. I have lots of parts collected, waiting to go in. Might dig back into it next year...

Thanks, Brian. But it's a little late to keep it orange and a long bed!

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Ya, I'm lurking as always. I'm itching to do some work on Bigetting Ugly but I'm studying for an exam at the end of October (for real this time) so I can't (shouldn't) get sidetracked until it is over.
I need to swap in a new short 32-spline input and twin stick shift rails into the NP205. I want to buy a new centerforce clutch and throw out bearing for use with the nv4500 bellhousing. Then a new hydraulic clutch line and a custom bracket to adapt the nv4500 tail mount to the factory SM465 tail mount. I'm also trying to decide what route to go to make my suspension more compliant. I hesitate to swap in 52" springs up front because with crossover steering I have no clearance to run a sway bar unless I can find one that is really wide, wide enough to straddle the outside of the steering gearbox. I've been looking at the one on my bronco but I'm not sure that it's quite wide enough

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
The 95 and 97 F350s that i had put the sway bar behind the front axle. Drop is on the wrong side for your truck but another angle to look at. Who knows, might be able to get one and flip it on top of the axle instead of under?
Which BH did you get? AA or stock? I was tempted to get a CF clutch but am going to try and see if the Valeo that was behind the 396 will work. The 454 kinda broke the bank.
