Is it possible to use Coil springs instead of bags with the Dropmember? Does the Dropmember itself lower the ride height of the truck or does the lower ride height come from the drop spindles?

The 'Dropmember' raises all of the control arm pivot points vs the stock crossmember so it does "lower the ride height of the truck". To lower it even more, drop spindles can be used.

Porterbuilt had mentioned the possibility of manufacturing a Dropmember for use w/stock coil springs but I don't thinks it's a 'sure-thing' yet.

I am still looking into making the Dropmember with a coil spring option... only obstacle is the lower control arm... maybe I will have to start building tubular arms as well....

idea's for the trucks and the order of things to do are taking shape and get closer to being realized , a few more months and i be able to start building for real

i complete 2 of the trucks intoo running fashion one custom and one basicly stock the thirth will be sacrificed for parts

Would the Dropmember still allow me to use the stock drum brakes? I'd have to scrape the money together just to buy the DM, so cash wise doing a drum to disk conversion is pretty much out of the question right now which is why I asked about the coil springs earlier. On the same note, I know the steering shaft would have to be replace but can the original steering column be saved? One more question and I think I'm done, at least for now. My truck came with a three on the tree so it has the small tranny hump. Anyone know where I can find one of the bolt in tall humps, or do I have to fab one myself? A lot of questions I know, but I'm still somewhat new to all this the most involved project I've done so far is replacing the window regulators.

you can mount stock spindles so i guess the drumbrakes will fit too

They should be fairly easy to hunt down, either on the parts board or at a wrecking yard. I'd expect to pay $15-30 for one. If it comes out of a TH400 truck, it'll save you from having to deal with the holes that'll be in the middle of it if it's a 4-speed truck.

Currently steel coil springs are not able to be used with the Dropmember. The mounting location for the steel spring in the Lower Control Arm would put it too far inboard. I will be building control arms in the not so distant future, and will design them to be used with either a bag, coil-over, or steel coil spring.
Your stock suspension components will work fine with the Dropmember (control arms, spindles and brakes). You will however, need to trim a little off the back of the lower control arm for clearance at the billet mounting block on the Dropmember. Feel free to ask any and all questions.

Hammered 65-
The Dropmember will work with a Big Block... the fit is a little tighter, but is do-able. I should have the motor mounts for the Big Block done by the end of the week. I am not aware of any BBC/Dromember combos in a 64-66... yet. There have been several in the 67-72s.

The Dropmember Back-half will be making its debue soon. Expect some pics in the next week or so.

Jason-
It doesn't look like those arms would work. The reason that a steel coil spring will not work is because the Dropmember narrows the track width. It would be necessary to move the spring mount outboard. I will be building tubular control arms in the future, and intend to provide the Dropmember with a steel coil spring option.

How will the price of your arms compare to the Strong Arms? Would the "package" price of the dropmember be comparable with yours vs. the Strong Arms? If it's close (or better yet, the same or better), I might just hold off an get the complete package then.

Hey Nathan, just bundle up the Dropmember, Arms, and back half, I'll send you a frame to attach them to so it's easier to ship, ok?

It will be at least a couple of months before the control arms get rolling. I have a lot of big projects I took on that will need to be finished up first. I intend to have them priced competitively. Of course, the final price will be determined by how much they cost me to build! I have some pretty cool ideas to make them stand out from the competition.

I will be cutting into a long bed frame to install a Dropmember Back-half (C4 version)... in the next couple of months. It will be a long to short conversion, but before I cut it off for the conversion, I will cut it off further back to keep the long wheel base... and see what needs to be done for guys like you!

I am currently mocking up the big block so I can get the motor mounts done. I will throw a cab on the chassis Friday and snap some pics. The big block does have to move up a bit more than the small block (about 1/2 to 1"), to clear the rack and oil pan. I will be seeing if the trans tunnel will need to be modified... it will be close!

My suspension is going on hold until further notice. It's killing me to wait, but I'd rather wait to see how it turns out and be happy than kick myself for going a different route later.

I'm waiting to for the entire package, besides I'm in the middle of rebuilding an engine to swap into my truck and it seems logical to me to do both at the same time since I'd have to yank the motor thats already in it to put the Dropmember in anyway.
