Re: Project "Funky Monkey"
Brian -- with all due respect, slow down buddy. Perfection takes time. I know you want to get it running and done but you have dumped a lot of money in this truck. Take it a little at a time. Get it like you want it and move to something else..
You have done a fantastic job man, really .. I'm not saying you're taking shortcuts. Just give it some lovin man .. you'll be much happier with it in the end knowing each part is perfect and it's exactly like you want it. I hope mine turns out half as good as yours .. just sayin, patience grasshoppa.

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"
I know what you are saying..... I really wish I would have taken more time with the motor. Now that I am having these power issues I really wish I could go back and make better decisions on building it up. Lesson learned.

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"
Congrats on the semi-finish. Looks killer, I agree on the bigger notch for the rear. I would probably have to drive it all summer first then attack the rear in the fall. You work so fast that I can't keep up just reading your thread. I don't recall the specs of your engine but the TBI may be holding it back from reaching the potential of the block and heads. The stock TBI throttle body flows 500cfm iirc but even still your numbers are low for an aluminum headed engine. Later

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"
Just looked back and that must be an aftermarket throttle body, much bigger than my stock tbi.

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"
I'm no expert Brian, but those Borla's were prob. loud due to not having any pipe on exit (dumping almost immed.)
rather than running to the back further. I'd think any muffler installed that way would behave similar.

Looking good. There are always tweaks to fix after a major rebuild. Looks killer!

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"
I have a few changes that I have made. I'll try to get you guys some updates here in the next few days. I ended up selling the motor that was in it and a buddy and I built a brand new 383 stroker. hopefully I can get some time in the next few days to post up some pics and progress. The motor is done. Right now we are working on shaving the firewall and getting it painted. My goal is to have that done by Thursday then slap the stroker in on Friday.

Wow nice motor, makes really good power and gobs of torque. Your going to have some fun with that 400 ft lbs at 2200 rpm.

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"
as of right now... this is what the truck looks like. I have a friend of a friend helping me clean up the firewall and making it look nice. I should have done this when I had the cab off... another lesson learned about rushing things.

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"
Yep -- looks familiar. I had to pull and rebuild my BB in my 68, but the end result will be much much better. It's easy to get excited and just want to drive these trucks asap but it's fun to take stuff back apart and improve too.
If it were finished today, there would be things you want to change later on. You're doing great man. The engine looks like it will be a bad a55 too.

Re: Project "Funky Monkey"
Thanks guys...I'm pretty excited that now I can put this new motor in and really be happy with how things turned out. I swear I have put on and taken off every single part of this truck 3 times.
