I started to begin tackling the passenger cab corner today, I cut the skin off and here is what I'm going to be dealing with. It's a tad bit worse than the drivers side, I'll start work on it tomorrow

Thanks Anthony, in the next couple days I should be starting be axle swap, so first thing on the list will be pulling the old axle out and welding the mounting pads to the new one.

Hey guys progress will be slow for the next two weeks since I have lots of exams to study for but I brought my rotors in to school today and turned them. They're nice and smooth and look like new, they still have lots of life left on them since the 78 gmc only had about 60,000 miles on it. Here's a before

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Just finished putting some parts together. Greased up the wheel bearings and put them on the hub then cleaned and painted the dust shield and bolted on to the painted spindle and slid the rotor and hub on. Now to move on to the control arms.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Today was a difficult filthy battle in the rain but I made good progress. I removed one of the upper control arms and with a torch and air chisel and multiple hours I finally got the bushings, sleeves and shafts removed from the control arm.

Nice work Nik. I enjoy checking on your build because you're always getting something done. I like the tail light idea too. Very cool

Thanks bomp, you're sure right about the hard work paying off. People late to the party are still accepted. I've also been watching your Steiner build and am really enjoying it.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Got these 61-63 gmc hubcaps from my neighbor as a gift. After I stripped the multiple coats of paint off I found that they are actually in really good shape. I don't mind running gmc hubcaps on a Chevy, at least they're not f*rd

Yep they are pretty cool. Turns out that they are from a 73-75 gmc not a 61-63. They have a vey similar look though. Here is what I thought they were

Could you use a press on those?

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Not really, there isn't anywhere to press on. If you pressed them they would only go like 1/8" until whatever block or cylinder you're using would hit the control arm. I suppose If you had a cylinder that was exactly 1/16 smaller than the sleeve itself then you could use that with a press but I don't have that or a press

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Well plans have changed like they usually do, I was trying to avoid pulling the motor and work around it but I decided that it would be best to remove it so I can install the crossmember much easier and it'll give me the opportunity to clean up the engine and make it look pretty with some paint. It's amazing how nice and simple these trucks are, in 30 minutes I had all of this removed, radiator, core support, grille support, grille and all wiring removed. I'll be borrowing a neighbors engine hoist and pulling it out in the next couple days
