Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
We discovered a leak in your fuel tank, this needs to be addressed!
The wheel tubs are in paint and the bed subfloor is in for the last time! Tomorrow we put the bedwood in.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
so Wyatt drilled a hole through the existing speedo glass for the button
We finished up your bedwood, I found bedstrips in KC... $20 a piece! That’s authentic 125 y/o barn wood! Christian finished the sound/heat barrier I think I found a solution for the crooked indicators, Wyatt is making an Aluminum bezel!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
Here we are chasing the courtesy light wire up the windshield pillar
Here’s a little issue we had. Wyatt dropped the spring for the gearshift in the column. In order to retrieve it the whole column had to come apart, but on these aftermarket columns, the turn signal switch is bigger than the hole in the end of the column! Made for an interesting couple of hours! Then we put the lever on the bottom of the column

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
Then the task was moving that unsightly Brake Switch up out of the line of signt. Where we moved it you can’t see unless you get way down
we also decided the 10-24 shift rod was just to flimsy and not quality enough for my builds. We bought the heims and rod to build a 1/4” setups and will do so on Monday

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
Mark’s showed up today, but apparently Classic parts sold me the incorrect windshield seal. This one is for a locking strip, I need a solid rubber one!
We installed the defrost vents and hoses today The new gas tank is finished and the bed went in for the last time! Tomorrow it’s off to the city to exchange windshield gaskets and get door glass.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
My son tilted the core support slightly, so we had to compensate. We cut and added metal to the Radiator cover
The headliner was a royal PITA, but we got it done Here it is out in the sunlight! Just FYI, we drove it a bit today and it made a loud clanking noise in the rear end, upon further inspection turning the driveshaft didn’t always result in the wheels turning. More diagnostics tomorrow, but I suspect That yahoo sold me a bad rear end! Not to worry, we have another!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
not much of an Update tonight. We seem to have a MAF issue, no one’s working tomorrow so we will continue diagnostics on Monday.
We think we may have figured out the rear end issue. My newest mechanic installed the hanger bearing incorrectly. We’ve fixed that and hope to get it out for a test drive on Monday. The passenger door is all back together Wyatt forgot to take a picture of the bedstrips, but they are finished (what a horrible undertaking!)

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
The tail lights are in! They were listed for a Ford (I couldn’t find any Chevy specific ones). But we made them work.
They’re LED, so they’re super bright We also finished up the bedstrips and filled the rear end. The gauge decals will be ready tomorrow, here’s the proof

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
so what day are we shipping? I’m glad it’s not tomorrow, I had an appointment at 2pm to put in the windshield, at 2:15 I called. I was informed that my installer was out with COVID. Well that’s just great, it’s supposed to ship tomorrow, what are you going to do about it? Long story short, they’re coming at 11AM tomorrow.
We ran into another issue as well. As of today it won’t start. No fuel pressure. Changed pump and filter, blew out lines. Both pump and filter are brand new. You can hear the pump, but no fuel comes out. We can’t even get it to run out of a gas can! More diagnostics tomorrow. We wired the tail lights And hung/adjusted the drivers door. Sorry it’s not ready, the no start issue really consumed our time.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
We finally figured out what was going on, it seems that one of my mechanics put the feed and return line on backwards at the tank!
https://www.facebook.com/sarge2017/v...59548065748751 Wyatt spent a little time customizing the glovebox liner. Tomorrow the gauges and the seat!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
We’ve started building the gauges, but we ran into a bit of a snag
While wiring the gauge cluster we realized that our junkyard cluster was missing the switched Ignition post We’ll need a new fuel gauge, looks like I’m going to the city Tuesday!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
so my guy was supposed to show an hour early on Friday to meet the tech from Mark's Moble Glass, he missed the appointment. Now Mark's tells me that the soonest they can have someone out is next Monday. So I told Wyatt his pennance was to make this right. So we bought the glass this morning, and put it in this afternoon!
We also picked up the fuel gauge and will be doing that tomorrow (the fuel gauge had a broken post on the back)
