Re: 67 long box
You have more patients then I sir. I rebuilt a steering gear once before and I decided then that it'd be the last. Sucks to see the engine like that, at least you'll know that it is done correctly this time.

Re: 67 long box
Thanks I forgot to mention I used pipe cleaners bent 90 degs and put one in each bearing hole stopping the bb's from going the wrong way. Pushed them all in from one hole and done. Worked like a charm. I did forget to take pics.

Re: 67 long box
Blew the 283 on my red truck the other day. Off to Calgary tomorrow to look at another 283. Found a nice set of Camel Hump Fuelie heads to put on.
I thought you were going to go LS?

Re: 67 long box
Well that sucks and I kind a understand. I was looking at some double camel heads as well but found new ones for mine. I want to keep the old school engine, it just seems right, maybe EFI. later.

Re: 67 long box
I have a 67 truck 327 waiting for rebuild but just spent a bunch of $ on all new brakes, tune-up and 3.07 rear end swap with a Richmond Locker. 283 sounds like a low mile rebuild that the guy changed direction. I will pull the motor and do a transplant as soon as the weather breaks.Taking a gamble but will put all new gaskets and the humper heads. I bought another CST long box so now I have 3-67's. Eenie meenie miney moe. One has to go..... someday lol.

Re: 67 long box
Rock Auto is my go to for all my auto parts they are inexpensive, fast and you get what you pay for with lots of different brands to choose from for each part. The local auto parts store just can't compete.

Re: 67 long box
Awesome build. Truck looks great.
Good to see another from Ontario. Free parking here if you are ever in the Falls. I have the same truck and I thank you for the ideas and motivation. Derek Bob and Blair the Ontario blue truck boys.

One more piece to make it's heart beat stronger and breath better. Retro look with 1968 Edelbrock intake.

Re: 67 long box
More parts for the engine and these should make the old 283 have some nice power. Not to big a cam but just enough to make it sound purdy.

Re: 67 long box
Power steering pump brackets all made from scratch. I still have to cut spacer tubes but I didn't have enough scrap tubing. Back to the steel supermarket. As you can see I couldn't get the pulley off to get at the old bracket to use as a template only to find the old bracket bent and not usable. I needed the pulley so I had to order a new one. I'm happy with the new brackets.

Re: 67 long box
Dang man, your fabrication skills are awesome! I love to check in on this thread and see your work. Far as that pulley, a couple of files, some sanding, it'd be fine. Really! Lol

Re: 67 long box
After a couple of hours scrubbing and another couple hours with a wire wheel it looks much better. I took off at least 3 lbs of dirt/oil and now has a wax sprayed on it, Pledge is my trick. 2 more gears will be nice especially on the highway.

Re: 67 long box
Great Job Metaldoc! All the mods you have done look great. I am going to have to steal your spare tire, tailgate, anti roll bar,Well hell I just might have to steal all your ideas! Great looking truck.I was thinking about restoring my 71 Super but then I would be afraid to drive it! My best friend restored a 67 Elcamino and it is perfect. Hasent been out of the basement in three years.Last car show it was at he couldnt even go eat afraid some one would touch it.The way you did your truck is the way to go.Drive the crap out of it,enjoy it. Now to get mine in the garage and follow your lead! Thanks again for your build thread it was a great read.

I 100% agree. The best way to go is very nice or new underneath and driver/patina on the outside. I use mine for hauling everything and going everywhere. Usually, I don't even put up the windows. Hagerty has it fully covered for more than I think it's worth, so I don't worry.

Re: 67 long box
I put the lettering (dollar store stickers) on the valve covers and finished prepping for paint. After painting it all orange I'll pull the stickers off to show recessed black letters. Ear plugs work great for plugging threaded holes, I don't have gaskets in yet because the bolts are not going orange. I want to make sure all the surfaces are covered with paint that should be. Takes longer but it's what the boss wants.
