I am sure this point has been debated to death before, but Chevy really does seem to build the better looking trucks, even if there is something good to be found in most designs out there.

I personally prefer these wheels Martin has bought to the traditional Slot mags he had fitted before, despite the fact that the Slots are worth a whole load more than the "Soft line" wheels.

I think he fact that he and I both hit the bid button at our maximum price in literally the last 10 seconds, often wins us stuff at good prices, as people do not have time to reconsider and enter another bid before the sale is over.

Well what can I say , that was one busy day . It started with meeting Rian at the local services at 9am . Then off to Essex to meet up with a guy called Dell . A few weeks ago I went to his place after work one evening, to collect a big back window cab section unfortunately it was to rusty to use. But after chatting to him for a while he told me he was possibly going to break one of his trucks . Having three of them a long bed stepper , his own daily driver on full air ride and a second truck that is up for sale . So after making him an offer for his cab and a drivers door , as well as bending Rian's ear about having the passenger door . With some help from Don . A deal was done .
On arriving at 10am as arraigned we found Dell had already stripped most of the outer front panels off .

Once again our cab lifter came in handy . In fact just to show how easy it is we got Dell's wife to operate it while holding his baby in her other hand

Once home it was a question of unloading it into the carport



Sunday I have a three hundred and fifty mile round trip to go and collect my wheels , when I return I will post some pictures of how clean the cab is I am so pleased to have a practically rust free cab at last . I would like to thank Rian for his help and also Dell and his Wife for their help .

Just a little update.i forgot to mention Rian's parts after meeting up with Rian,as he always offers to help . But this time there was a good reason to come with me . I had convinced him that getting a door was the right way to go . He also said he Was interested in the inner fenders after I told him they were in mint condition . He wasn't disappointed . While we were stripping the cab of all its internal parts he decided he would also have the custom heater box . Dell also let him have the cab mount rubbers , as I didn't need them.

Then there was the seat he said he would be interested in swapping his factory bench seat for this setup but it would be a question of him running it past (Mrs kemp ) the Boss





So all in all not a bad day for every one including Dell's wife as you can see from the smile she was pleased to see one of his three trucks to go

I think somtimes we are a little mad doing these trucks . I have just got home from a 375 mile round trip to collect my wheels .



So another weekend over I haven't done much on my truck . But I have made a great step forward in the build this weekend . So now the hard work can start , changing the cab will save me a lot of time but also make for a better truck in the long run

Well I couldn't resist taking a photo of the cab . I am so pleased with the condition compared to my old one . It's amazing it's the same age but worlds apart

Now that's the good points here are the bad points

A very poor dash repair



I think I will. Need to weld in a repair section

I also need to repair were the floor shifter was fitted



The only other repair I need to do is the back edge of the roof . But all in all a lot better than my old one

Not till I do the dash and floor ,then it can say prepping and painting . I will sort out the panels and give you a call ok

I saw this on the back window and wondered if anyone recognised it or what is left of the truck.

Originally a dark bottle green.

Fitted with extra spring perches on the rear chassis.

Fitted with access to reserve tanks on the bed side and in the cab.

Truck could have had a colourful history.

well it's helped out at least 3 trucks already , mine, Martin's and Rian's. I've had bits off Ian's that has help mine and also the old engine out of Martin's is in mine. Great how the parts keep being recycled

If you really want to carry on with the dissemination of where a breaker ends up..... I sent Del's contact details to three guys who are interested in parts as well as one guy who is interested in the long black n blue truck.

Its great when we can all gain something from one source.

I am so pleased I got in contact with Dell . I originally contacted home about a big back window inner section . Unfortunately it was to rusty to salvage , but we got chatting as you do when you go to another guys house when they have three trucks . It was at that point he said he might break the grey truck if the guy on Sunday didn't buy it . That was three weeks ago . So I made him an offer for the cab and one door but also telling him that a friend would be interested in the other door . On the day we arrived I then told him we had two other people interested in parts . It did seem a shame to break it but he had already removed the rear axel for his blue truck . The rest is history

Well let's start with a couple of pictures of the under side of my new cab






The more I look at the new cab the happier I am .
The only thing was I had spent a small fortune on repair panels ,so after speaking to Ian and Paul both members on this forum . Ian said he would have the repair panels off me , and Paul said he would like a section of the cab ,from the filler cap to the front of the rocker
So operation cut up began . Thankfully Rian said I could borrow the plasma cutter .
Wow that thing makes light work of cutting up things . So as I cut out the new panels for Ian that I had already welded into the cab . Paul.y turned up took a look at the section he needed . A deal was done and we started cutting out the section he needed .
Unfortunaly my photographer (Grizz) had the day off , but Paul did take a picture of the section so I am sure some of you who follow this thread also look at Paul's thread

Well the old cab went into the trailer easier then the new one



I kept the roof section in case anyone in the UK needs to repair one . If not Rian will probably turn it into something interesting

After cleaning up all the mess. I Spoke to Ian and asked him , how far away he was from Bentley Newcastle , as one of the other fitters at work was going to put a set of hand controls on a new Bentley on Monday, he told me he was going to be about 15 minutes from there on Monday . So I loaded up the car and drove 60 miles to Duncan,s house and dropped off the box of parts . He asked if I was driving that far would myself and Amanda like to go for dinner with him his wife and daughter plus Matt one of our other fitters . We said yes . Amanda was happy that I had spent the whole day cutting up the cab so brownie points earned going out for dinner
