Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Today was a good day! I got my "new" 64 GMC 1 ton delivered and my black walnut wood was delivered. My buddy John (Johns 66) milled and cut the wood for me and Steve (GMCNUT) delivered it along with the truck! It is weird seeing 2 60's trucks sitting in the driveway...Can't start working on this one until I finish the 65...

Can't wait to start finishing the wood. It's going to look killer!

Trucks look great! But dang you are crazy! I don’t have enough time to work on 1 truck!

Both projects look fun though. Keep it up!

Thanks...I don't have time to work on more than 1 either, but I am so close to finishing my 65, I can wait to work on the 64 until I finish the 65. I hope to get the 65 to the exhaust shop at the end of the week.

All I need to do to get the 64 driving is change out the gas tank (which I have) and put a new master cylinder/bleed the brakes.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Put my "new" radiator support on today that I got from John. Thanks John! My old one had some waviness in it (last picture) and had more rust holes than I liked. This one is so much better! I also drilled a 1/4" hole in for drainage in the area that usually rusts out on these. Hope it helps.

Going this afternoon to talk to a shop about exhaust and charging up the A/C. Hope to have the rest of the front end on this weekend.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Thanks Christian...I appreciate it.

I stopped at O'reilly's today for a lower radiator hose. They let me go in the back and look at all the ones they had. I found one that I thought would work based on water pump location ...so I took a chance and bought it and came home and it fit perfectly without cutting to size at all! I am stoked about that! Now I just need to find my hose clamps.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I had someone interested in buying the orange truck yesterday...enough $ and I can part with it. LOL

I can see the finish line on the white truck...that is my only focus right now.

Edit: I forgot to say..when I do the orange truck, I want a flat bed and rails like yours!

Got the drivers inner fender on today and mounted everything tight. So weird seeing it go back together...it's been so long I forgot what it looked like!

Thanks J & John! I couldn't help but put on the front passenger fender while I was looking at it. Need to do a little adjusting, but no point in doing that until I get the grill support installed....but it is starting to look like a truck.

I need to clean up the grille support and clear coat it...maybe get it on this weekend or get the work done this weekend.

Anyone know what size bolt is in the bottom of the fender well where it attaches to the cab?

That lower rad hose is nice! Do you still have the part numbers for both upper and lower hoses? I want to get rid of the crappy looking flexible hoses that I have

The lower hose is Gates 20475. 1 3/4" ID. The only difference is I moved my engine forward 2", so this one might not fit yours because of length from water pump to radiator.

The top hose is the one that was on my truck when I bought it. I haven't replaced it yet, but it seems to be in good condition. I cut about 2" off on the engine side from original. I think it is a standard 1 1/2" C10 hose and cut to length. At least the shape looks that way to me.

Oh yeah, I forgot you had moved yours forward. That hose will probably be too short for mine. Time to do some searching lol

With the fender on, it's starting to look like a truck again!!

Funn you say that...I said to my wife...want to go for a ride in the truck?! If it had exhaust I would!

I got the back of grille support cleaned up with a wire wheel...going to put some por 15 on it Monday. Then I will clear coat the front of the support and paint the part behind the grille black like original. I hope to get that grille on at some point this week...then the hood!

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Trying to keep from buying "new parts"...I am doing some cleaning up on the grille/grille support...decided to see if I could clean my headlight bezels...blasted them, then sanded with 220 and 320 grit paper...night and day difference. Going to clear coat them this week so they don't rust again...

One bezel done, one to go!
