Re: A '54 named Busty
I also manager to install the three bed sills and used an old Swahili trick to drill the holes in the angle iron bed side rails, you basically take one sill and flip it upside down directly over the one you want to drill holes for

Re: A '54 named Busty
but wait there's more, in order to keep my plastic bed boards from becoming Shish Kabobs I even saddled up some heat shields at the highest points over the axle, cause that's how we do at Up In Smoke Muffler Works

Re: A '54 named Busty
You are making good progress.
I can't see clearly from your pics, but it looks like the rear brake flex line is close to the driver's side tail pipe.......... please make sure there is good clearance. keep it going......

Re: A '54 named Busty
now this month we made a pretty short and concise list of just over half a dozen things we must do and Busty will be jumping undulations on the residential stratas in no time
... so what do I do... krap that's not on the list! |

now before doing this rust repair on the account of safety and such, I carefully removed the old [ahem] ... original firewall insulation

Re: A '54 named Busty
once again since I don't trust my measuring capabilities, I prefer to make a template which will tell me later where to drill that bottom hole in our new patch panel
now please keep in mind i am not going around fixing all the rusted section as part of some grand beautification plan, no, far from it, I am only strengthening any parts that are rusted that something else would mount to, like the inner fender in this case I thought the gray primer on the outside and red on the inside was a nice touch |

Re: A '54 named Busty
after two medium coats on each of the inner fenders I sprayed what was left over on the passenger fender
I'm learning this stuff could work if you sprayed an entire can on each piece, (pronounced $25 dollars per piece - aka expensive!) I've been half donkeying this entire build and I wasn't about to start whole donkeying it now |

Re: A '54 named Busty
I picked up some gray Seem Sealer from Megatron's less popular younger brother, and decided to apply it the hard way - by packing it in with my finger and making a royal mess

Re: A '54 named Busty
Come on bro, we are running out of daylight, can we please do something on the list ?
once again we run what we brong, in this case we will be instalizing our semi new 10 1/2" tall sending unit out of our '74 GMC left over from our LS swap into our brand new '95 Blazer 9 1/2" deep tankulator needless to say this required some finesse The Russian Judge really liked the star washer on the ground wire bolt!!! Re: A '54 named Busty
so originally I wanted to run some steelbraided line from the tank to the fuel pump but it turned out to be too short, what ensued was comedy on wheels
so I go to AutoZone and ask the Pimple Faced Youth (PFY) behind the counter how much does 3/8ths fuel hose cost, he says: "I donno like two bucks" I ask ok, what about fuel injection hose? he looks at me as if I just asked him who shot Kennedy? "it's the same thing" he replies oh boy I think to myself it's gonna be one of those affairs now, let me just say I'm not the Get Off My Lawn Old Man, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not ... so I look at this as a teachable moment, and say "no they are not, could you please check how much it is?" he disappears to the back and comes out with about 4 feet of hose and says: "here you go" I look at it and it says TOC as in Transmission Oil Cooler I look up at him and say this is Transmission Oil Cooler line at that time Linda (nicest most helpful manager in the store) gives me that I'm so sorry look from across the counter - I acknowledge her with: It's OK! [which it is not] she walks him through looking up a foot of fuel injection hose in the system and he looks up and says: "it's $5.69 a foot" I say thank you see, that's a big difference, cause I need 20 feet of it and that's $113 bucks the calculation is completely lost on him, and he asks: "So do you want it?" I say no, it's too much, just give me 20 feet of regular fuel line... to be continued ... ~ INTERMISSION ~

Re: A '54 named Busty
while he's getting my hose, I go to grab the Seem Sealer, as I walk back out of the ile I trip on a 20 foot long measuring tape strung out across the store, he has layed it out on the floor and is now unwinding a spool of hose to measure it along that measuring tape on the floor
I say here let me help and hold the snake to the tape measure, as I utter out "that's only 18..." SNIP he cuts the line whoa that's too short, that was only 18 feet... he unwraps the rest of the spool, there aint that much left, cuts off about 2 feet and says: "there, 18 plus 2 now you have your 20 feet" I FRIGGEN KID YOU NOT !!! his co worker was just shaking his head, I don't think this kid is gonna make it till the end of the week Last edited by Gregski; 05-05-2020 at 02:47 AM. |

Re: A '54 named Busty
DISCLAIMER and I am not being rude.
I know I did it wrong, using a rubber line instead of a hard line, but this is temporary to take the truck around the block to ensure the TH400 box of gears works so that when I yank it out and sell it I can truly vouch for it as ran when parked, then it's LS Swap Time Baby ! |

Re: A '54 named Busty
any Hot Rodder will tell ya, it's all about power to weight ratio, so began our day today by ridding ourselves of the [ahem] choke cable
doing so probably ads easily as much horse power as a Holley sticker on the quarter panel of a 72 Chevelle |

first the right one (90 MPH speedometer) then the left one aka the quartet (Amps, Temp, Gas, and oil)
how cool was that back in the day you got to actually monitor current rather than voltage... Rad! |

Re: A '54 named Busty
then I decided that even though I like gray, this truck was just too gray even for me, I could not stand those gray doors, looks like someone just primer gray bombed the entire thing
so I wondered what would a little contrast look like, so I removed what ever these things are called, window frames, window borders |

Re: A '54 named Busty
I must admit, I had the truck for a year and this is the first time I realized one of these is gray and the other is white
anywho, they are both in such great shape that I wanted to see what they look like naked, maybe with a little brush finish I think this works well with stainless steel, so although I plan on clear coating them I don't know if they will last and not rust, we shall see, if it does not work out I will paint them gloss black |
