Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
What have you guys done for an access panel to the filler in a steel bed? Any recommendations?

Dave,,,
I've tried to read all 22 pages of this thread and so probably missed this, but will the hidden hitch also work with your tank? 68 short bed, sport bumper?

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
Sooooo If we were to make revisions to this current tank. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can be anything. Structure, pump options, Cap options. Please PM me any suggestions.

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
All the pics I see in this thread have the tank rigidly bolted to each frame rail. What if I decide to take a fast turn or if I jack one corner of the rear up to change a tire(or any other reason) and the frame flexes. With the tank rigidly attached, it would have to withstand these forces. Did anybody mount this thing with straps or rubber bushings etc. to isolate the tank from the frame flexing?

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
Another issue not addressed with this tank is galvanic corrosion where the steel frame contacts the aluminum flange. I plan to spray a coat or two of that rubberizer paint on the frame and on the flange to eliminate the chance of the flange pitting out. Still no responses to my last post about mounting the tank rigidly.

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
Probably the biggest thing I can think of would be pump options. A standard and more HP pump. My engine puts out 550 and I would have to upgrade the pump for more flow to properly fuel my engine.

We are currently finishing a new tank with the A1000 which will be ready to sell in the next week. This tank will be good to 1200 HP.

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
A couple things. First mine is EFI and the pump seems to be quiet enough for me. I had an external before that was much louder.
Secondly, the above height thing. I had to remove my rear cross support and slide my tank from the rear to sit the mounting "wings" on my frame. If I mounted it to the bottom I would have had the interference also. By placing it inside the frame it clears the top jsut barely. I would agree it would not hurt for it to be a little taller. I am waiting for my computer retune but have driven it some this tank looks and works super. You mention "instructions" I honestly cant remember if I got any or not. if not I would suggest including this with these "must do" items like the rubber pad and the fittings. A bigger more gph EFI pump would be a nice option this was not available when I purchased so I have the 255. Thanks for the great product Dave

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
Hi Boyd,
I am looking to upgrade my 71' longhorn with a new fuel tank and I would like a quote. I am running efi with an external pump. How much would a tank cost that I could mount between the frame rails? Would it come with a sender (with a return line)? How much without a sender? And how long would it take to manufacture? Thanks, -Chris

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
I bought a 72 blazer tank repo and was planing on plumbing it to my taillight or marker light. Since that time I feel it would just be easier to cut the bed floor and go straight up with one of these tanks. Anyone have pictures of how they have plumbed these tanks. Thanks!
Also do these come with sending unit etc to work on a 72?

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
What material is everyone making their fuel lines out of? I want to run hard lines but the cheapest is steel which has a chance to corrode the aluminum tank, I could use aluminum but some say it can crack under vibration, or stainless which is spendy and I have heard it can be difficult to work with. Anybody have any input?

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
I did brass fittings off the tank with a coated steel line hard line the whole system in 3/8" complete with return line off the preasure regulator worked out real nice. SS is nice but you will probably have to get someone to do the flaring for the fittings

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank
Hello all, has anyone put one of these in a 60-62? I'm planning to order soon and wondered what measurements you gave him or if you just got the standard tank and made brackets I know my frame is about 4 inches wider than a 63-72. I thought I ran across someones plans for a 62 but can't find it now

You can contact David and he will make it as wide as you want it, just give him the dimensions/drawing.
