I really like the table. They did a very good job with the design, the only thing I would like is the bigger one. I think we can get the other table separately and put them together but that will be a while. It is heavy enough to not dance around while you are welding but not to heavy to move, although it is still pretty heavy to move by yourself. Now I need to start really cranking on the truck.

Re: 52 Project

Well I bet you guys thought I disappeared...lol. I have been doing some boring rust repair and been doing a bunch if stuff that needed to get done around the house. I actually got some picture worthy stuff done today. When I did the steering column I had to put the column right in the bend between the firewall and the floor. That created a problem trying to secure the bottom of the column. I thought about several different solutions and this is the one that I came up with. We got a swivel ball and I built an enclosure to secure it. Here are a few pictures of what I did today....Enjoy.

Re: 52 Project

I went down to my dads today and we were test fitting the front fenders and inner fenders. I thought they went together pretty nice but I had a WTF moment. The passenger side appears to bolt to the firewall but the drivers side is about 2 inches from the firewall. I think I am missing a bracket or something on the drivers side. I looked at a couple of other builds but don't really see what I need. Mylow53 had a picture that looked like the bracket I need. Does anyone have a good picture of how that goes together? Here are a couple of pictures of our mock up. Hopefully this will be the last time before the final paint and assembly.

Thanks, Am I correct that the pass side is bolted directly to the firewall? When we replaced the firewall and floor I didn't even think about this... Guess I will have to drill some holes. That is why I am doing the test fits to make sure everything is done!!! Seems like a good idea....at least in theory...lol.

Yes, passenger side bolts right to the firewall. I assume the reason it was different was to accomodate for the floor mounted parking brake, but since mine was a 1 ton it had the trans mounted parking brake.

Re: 52 Project

Dig through your parts boxes and look for something like this:

I don't have good access right now, but in a few days I can get you better pictures of how it mounts.

Yeah it is Spectra, it is very nice and although it isn't something I would have picked my dad likes it and it is his truck.... The center part is cast so the polish is what you would expect with cast but the tubes, clamps and filters are really cool. I will get you some better pictures next weekend if you would like.

I know I'm not Fred, but I just put mine on my truck. They're called inner fender to firewall filler panels on classic parts website. Here is a link to an image.
http://www.classicparts.com/images/37-791.jpg
A weatherstrip kit for under the hood that I had ordered from classic industries came with a piece of rubber that goes around the edge of the filler panels to create a seal. Otherwise, I would've completely forgotten to put them back on.

the little filler panels are a factory part. mine where all bent up, so i made new ones out 18 guage steel and tin snips. you can also buy them for about $8.00.i did forget to put the rubber weatherstrip that goes behind them. yes, i do have a build posted under the regular 47 to 59 message board with the name slamburban,if you wanted to check it out.

Re: 52 Project

Did some more fitting today between helping my son on his car. Got the hood mounted but still need to do some adjusting but this is all just to make sure we have everything we need before final painting and assembly. Also we got a new bolt kit for the hood but the shoulders seem long....is there some washers or spacers that we are missing? I also got the front lower panel cut and fitted (the one that goes in front of the radiator and attaches to the grill ). I still need to cut it back a little more... I cut it and rolled the edge so I will have to do that again but that's ok. Anyway here are a couple of it today and also the new Mar-K bed that has been in attic was uncrated today so I will add a couple of pictures of that too.

Here's another good picture of the inner fender bracket if you're still looking (not mine):

Re: 52 Project

Thanks Bluejeep, dad ordered one from LMC truck and it seems like the right one. Looks just like the one in the above picture.

Do you know if the hood hinge bolts just a spacer or belleville washer on them? Seems like a lot of space between the head of the bolt and the hinge. I am talking about the hinge to hood interface. I should have taken some pictures of what I am talking about but didn't think about it.

Yeah we got this bolt kit from LMC because I couldn't find the originals. I had the two that went with the springs but didn't have the other ones. This truck was taken apart 20 years ago and lots of stuff has been miss placed or forgotten how it goes back together. It just seems like there is a lot of room between the head of the bolt and the hinge. I took a thick washer and put under one of the bolts and it took up some of the room. Will take some pictures next weekend when I go down there to better clearify what I am talking about.

I haven't gotten that far yet, dad bought a Lokar e-brake kit but he wasn't entirely sure he wants to use it now. I just scrapped a 87 Nova and pulled the floor mounted e-brake handle out of it just in case. Will probably be a while before I get that figured out.

Bernie,
Is the bolt threads too long and bottoming out in the captured nut in the hood?
