Thanks for taking the time to catch up. I'm glad I made the decision to do the dash. It was alot of work, but well worth it. Someone came by and said the dash will make the truck stand out. I said I don't think so unless they are a real enthusist. Most people will look at it and think it is original. Then the guy I bought the radiator stopped by to see the truck and after he looked at it I asked him if he noticed anything out of the ordinary. He said "like what". I said "the dash". He still didn't know what was different. For those that know it will be noticed. BTW thanks for the comment.


I did get out in the shop a little tonight. Thought I would post an informational post. Most of ya'll know what this tool is but some don't. Before this tool people drilled holes in dents and ran a screw in it and slide hammered it out. This stud gun is not invasive, but will leave a burn mark on the back side. Make sure you have everything clear on the back side, or you'll be roasting marshmellows.





Clean the metal of paint in the area that you will put a stud. I used a few more than what is in the pic to get most of the dent out and put some tension back in the metal. It was pretty flemsy.



Yes I wasn't happy with my roof, once wiped down with glass cleaner it showed some ripples. I figured I'd fix it now.

The kit I have has a pull handle and slide hammer. I pulled up on the pin while hammering lightly around it on the crown of the dent. The kit also has an attachment to weld pins for some body side mouldings and for the clips that hold the chrome trim around some front and back glass.

I love it. It does a great job. But they have an even better system out now. I would love to have one. It is alot faster and it does more. I used one before that another bodyman had. It wouldn't be worth it for a hobbist. Here is the link

For a few projects it wouldn't be worth it. For the everyday body man it's a must..

Allan I saw a 55 dash for sale really cheap, and thought of getting it to put in my 65. At this point I just want to get it on the road. I can always do it later, but I would really like to put one like your in.

I'm thinking of posting a build thread on mine. I'm back halfing a 73 1/2 ton short bed to the 3/4 ton long bed front of my 65, and converting it to a 1/2 ton short bed. I bought a wrecked 73, and am using everything I can off it. I don't like the coils on the 60-72 frames. That's why I'm doing this. I made a custom triangle 4-link for it that has canter lever air bag mounts. It will be an interesting build. Based on doing everything as cheap as I can. So far I have only $740.00 in both trucks.

As far as the stud welder/dent puller tool, I bought one from Harbor Freight Tools for $100. For those that are familiar with that store, they have them on sale every now and then for $100. Hey Alan I just wanted to say your truck look sweet man, I've been reading your post for the last 4 hours. Do to internet in Iraq being slow. I was thinking about your gas filler, Have you thought about puting it behind your left tail light. Like the older caddys are that pop out. I'm probably going to put suburban lights in the upper bed post of that eara, and put some kind of pop out fuel filler where the old lights will go! I have a 64 and I cant do all the work that you have, you know the military didn't pay crap and still doesn't. But I love your build up. I'll be back from Iraq in a month and cant wait to get into it. Has anyone had anyone problems with CPP's break kits?

First let me say thanks for your sacrifice and service.

I have thought about doing a hidden fuel filler. The problem is I can't decide on what tail lights I want to run. I need to do some searching and try to find something to tie the truck and the Impala dash together. What year caddy has lights like you mentioned? I don't plan on ordering anything else from CPP until I hear some good feed back from fellow members. As you have probably read my last few experiences haven't been good. Have a safe trip home.

Miata update: I color sanded and re cleared for a deeper shine. The owner s going to love it.

Hey man I did a little research about the taillight filler, It came on the 56-57 chevys. the tail lights would look good on our truck but it would give you an Idea how to do it. I found this site that sales a kit for the 55 http://rockyhin.ipower.com/store/product8.html Then I got to thinking whatever light you decide to use, you could put a small actuator behind it with the light on a hiden hinge, Just a thought!
