Re: My 56 build

it is so self gratifying when you lay primer over something you spent hours on and it comes out looking smooth.
looks awesome, keep it up and you'll be driving. do you have a final color picked, for the umpteenth time? lol.

Re: My 56 build

The color is going to be hermosa blue. It’s a factory infinity color. A dark pearl blue. Should flop nicely with all the curves on these trucks. Thinking of a metallic gray for frame and under the hood.

How do you keep rides secure with the pushbutton starts? I like the idea, although i do kind of also like the idea of a swinging old keychain.

Re: My 56 build

I use the VIAS Technology SEER system. Simple and programable. Disengages what you want and you carry a fob on a keychain instead of a key.

Just as Tdishon said, it’s fob activated. I’m using the same technology to activate my door entry system

Ohhh that's fancy. I might stay down here with the peasants and a key for now, but saving this for the future truck that has the sexy chassis and all that.

Some progress. Almost done with the box, interior and one door. All I have to do is sand n sand n sand n sand … you get the idea

Re: My 56 build

Wasn’t happy with the window switches that came with my kit. They were 80’s Chevy truck style. So I went with 2000 Monte Carlo switches. The express down works too.

Re: My 56 build

Then I started to make the wood cover for the top of my door handles. Im going to use a blue stained panel on the lower part of the door and continue that through the kick panel. The door panel and handle will be covered in tan material.

Re: My 56 build

Awesome work! Is that evercoat filler? Do you plan to leave the steps smooth after paint?

Yes, it’s evercoat chrome -a-lite. Sands really well. Hardly any paper clogging. The steps will be left smooth.

Re: My 56 build

I usually beat out the rough stuff, blast, repair any holes and dents found after the blasting, smooth the previously beat areas, get things as straight as possible, epoxy primer, fill anything that still needs filling, high build primer, wet block sand and spray high build/wet sand as many coats as needed to eliminate the low spots, then epoxy one last time and store the parts till paint time. before paint, wet block sand, spray a sealer before painting. good to use the same manufacturer all the way through so there are no problems with compatability

Not sure. I haven’t done any bodywork in 20 years. When I was last doing it PPG just came out with KU36 (it’s been a while!) I’ve just been taking advice from my local paint/body guy from the parts store. Guy knows his stuff… I’ve been out of the game for too long to understand current products. I plan on using evercoat glazing putty along with high build primer.

Re: My 56 build

Ok, just curious.
Is the glazing putty a 2 part deal? Just wondering if it will sand at the same rate as the surrounding area. I've had that problem before. Waaay back the glazing putty was lacquer based and sometimes would react with the other substrates.

Yes, it’s 2 part. Like the filler. I’m using evercoat glazing putty. It’s what I’ve used before anyone produced high build primer. It sands starting with 180 and is great for pinholes heavy sanding scratches and feathering. I’ll probably use it on top of my high build if needed

Re: My 56 build

Not much to show with all the bodywork. But when I’m tired of bodywork, I’ve been working on the interior. I like how the 1st handle came out with its final shape. Now to repeat the process for the other side. Last 2 pictures are plans for an additional wood accent. I plan on staining all of the wood blue to match the bed wood. First I have to plane them down to 3/8”. All the door panel and lower section of the handle will be covered in material. Planning on a rich tan (tobacco) color
