Well my time with this incredible truck is coming to a close. I have done a lot to this truck and still awaiting the full Gardner exhaust system, week 13 now. I'll give it back to him Monday until it comes in. Got the new antenna and original AM converted radio installed. New choke stat, it now has a fast idle upon cold start. New stamped top rad hose with clamps. New correct rad cap. New correct restoration battery. New interior light lens. New repro horn button with "blue" bowtie. These are all just the latest items. It's been a learning experience for sure. Thanks to all who chimed in when questions came up. I will post completion of exhaust system when done. Dave

Question fellas, shouldn't there be an idle up solenoid to kick up the idle when compressor is on? I'm currently having to set the idle at 900 or so for the load. Dave

Not sure about '69, but my '70 never had that solenoid.

Same for my '69. I THINK I read on here that the solenoid was added in 1971 or 1972.

I worked on a lot more cars than trucks back in the day, as a mechanic. My dim and misty memory says '71 for the solenoids. But the older I get, the dimmer and mistier those memories get.

Ok, I believe I have located the correct air cleaner for this truck. Found it in one of those small cars for sale magazines on a newsstand last weekend. Called the fella up and it's heading to Va. I just hope that it is in fact correct. It's off a 4 barrel 327. Thoughts?

I do not believe they are the same. For reference - 1st 2 pics are 65 big block Impalas I once owned - same air cleaner that you just ordered. Last 3 pics are a few examples of truck big block air cleaners of the era (a 72, 70, and 69 in order). Note the truck air cleaner lid has the raised rib/ridge or whatever you want to call it where the pass car lid has the flat area where the HP rating sticker is placed. I "think" the truck assembly is a smaller diameter overall, but don't quote me on that.. Sorry, wish I had better news.

Thanks for posting. Whatever the slight difference this will be as close as I can get for now. Will look much better than what's on there now. It looks exactly the same as this 69 factory photo to me. Although that engine looks to be a calif bound emission with the A.I.R. And it looks like the correct orientation of the air horn is towards the alternator.

correct,that is a 67 impala air breather in the ad,identical to what's on my 67 impala wagon with the 327 275 HP 4 barrel and turbo 400 it was born with.i'm not sure what a 69 truck had but i suspect it's like what's on my 72 big block truck with several pictures here already of what that looks like.the snorkel on mine is right behind the alternator with the heat stove pipe coming up from the drivers side exhaust manifold.

From what I have seen 69 trucks with 396 did not have provisions for a warmup heat stove nor any vacuum lines/fittings on the air cleaner base.

I don't remember- does your current air cleaner housing have the nipple on the underside of the air horn for the heat stove from the manifold? My recollection (subject to correction- I could go look at my manuals) is that all engines starting in '67 had the thermostatic air cleaner. My truck has it, but along the way somebody removed the stove off the exhaust manifold, and tossed the stove pipe. Possibly when the driver's side manifold was replaced. I know that the passenger's side manifold was replaced, it's incorrect.

This is the correct air cleaner for your truck. Heat stoves were only on 1/2T automatics in 1969.

So the lid is flat and not concave. And it looks like an indentation on the one side at the bottom. Thank you.
